I will be heading into Suvarnabhumi in early September from the USA. When I arrive at Suvarnabhumi, can I purchase a cheap flight ticket at the airport for getting to Chiang Mai on the next flight?

Thank you kindly

You might if there is a seat available !

How cheap does it need to be after such a long flight from the US

A flexible fare from Bangkok to Chiang Mai on Thai Airways which flies 5 or 6 times a day will cost less than 60US$ and business class less than 100US$

Having said that there are many airlines and flights but it might be a pain to go around the different counters to look for availability and compare prices.

I would book the last flight of the day with Thai Airways and if I am early go to the checking counter and ask to be put on the next available flight, doing this will be painless and quick.

Not worth the aggravation after a long-haul IMO. Just book yourself an Air Asia flight online. Prices for early september around 1000Bt at the moment. Don't get caught by the 15kg checked bag allowance though!

I just purchased a flight to Chiang Mai on Thai for 1585 THB including all taxes/charges. Much better value than Air Asia as you get the full baggage allowance and they'll check my bags straight through. Also no need to go through the normal immigration at BKK as you can use the transfer immigration counter. Easy going back as well - as a CIQ passenger you are processed by immigration at Chiang Mai and proceed straight to the secured area when arriving in BKK. No long queues anywhere.

my dear friend, your best bet is to book now through www.Airasia.com in advance ishouldn't cost you more then 1000THB. Per Person, if you want to purchuse a ticket on the day of travel it'll cost you arounnd 2000THB per person +.

have a good trip

Ps I just booked ticket to Ubon for early August.... 3 people 2700THB.
