I'm watching this live on AFRTS here in Greece. (Armed Forces Radio Televison Service).

Half time now...and score is USA 2 Brazil 0.

U.S. goalie has stopped two Brazilian shots on goal so far.

Confederation cup final.

You can be sure Brazil will be coming hard in the 2nd half. So far it seems the U.S. team has Brazil dazed.

Thanks SBK did not realise I had posted in wrong forum!

Good to see Howard an ex-Man Utd keeper doing well internationally

This can only be good for International football and let's hope this gives Real ( :):D hehe) Football a massive boost in the States

Kaka lucky not to get sent off Brazil were a bit cynical with the physical stuff lets hope they don't go the same way here

Good Game so far

oops what are they doing now 2 -1

Posted

Now USA 2 Brazil 3

the USA have maybe thrown it away by changing the way they defend

instead of challenging everything they went the premiership route of zonal and have given the Brazilians the few feetthey need to get it together

Howard saved a header over the line

a trait among Utd keepers hehe

real shame but lets hope the USA sharpens up a bit

Who cares where it is...don't you senior forum operators have anything better to do or have a job? It is not that important...life goes on. So it is in the wrong forum. Annoying.

Wow wow wow, sweet child o mine. Sweet baby Jesus and the orphans, put it away......! sbk, is doing what she does, if things don't go in the right place the world will fall out of sinc and you will be as bereft of life as you are sence of humour.....!

Calm down calm down....!

Alas they lost

Kaka should have been sent off twice for blatant elbowing but if the officials had seen that they might have seen the goal that wasn't given

Many brazilian players now play like Italians cynical and dirty

Never mind lets hope they do better next year in the World cup

Brazil scored 3rd goal in the 83rd minute.

Final score Brazil 3 USA 2.

Brazil pushed hard in the 2nd half and scored 3 goals.

Good game for both sides though.

Well, this is a first. Do something helpful and get criticized for it. Amazing.

I don't see why a moderator can't move a football topic to the football forum. Stupid comment made by whomever that fellow happens to be, it's obviously not about golf, goodness...

Brasil have shown convinced me , that despite no winner of the Confederations Cup ever going on to win the WC, that they can be the first to do that. They're not the most stylishly flowing and inventive Brasil side that I've ever seen and they've struggled to play well even against the likes of Egypt -- but they have the shown an impressive added ingredient -- that of a mental toughness in scoring three winners right at the death. As per ... well worth a flutter.

As for the USA. I think that Donovan is one of theirs who could fair ok in the Premiership. Might be well worth a punt for the likes of, e.g. Fulham , or the likes.

Slight edit and elaboration on above :)

StevieH,

Sorry in my last I did not make the comment meant clear

when saying "Never mind lets hope they do better next year in the World cup"

I meant that I hope they (Brazil) play with style and flair like in the 70's instead of cynical dirty like Italy etc etc

Brazil have always been in the past a side apart from the rest of South America in that they were never that dirty

some South American matches i.e. Chile Venuzela etc have been like ultimate fight club tag matches

So ideally I would like to see them being very entertaining yet not win :)

and also that USA play well in the 2010 World Cup

Twas a heartbreaking loss in the end, but the better team won. At 2-0 up at halftime I thought we could actually beat Brazil. It only took a minute of the second half for that hope to see some reality.

Donovan is certainly a good player, was at Bayern Munich for just a short loan a few months back. He didn't really gel with the team in two separate stints at Bayer Leverkusen and has repeatedly said that he thinks playing in Europe would make him a better player but that he just loves living in California so doesn't really worry about it. He says if he never plays in Europe again it wouldn't bother him. Good player for the U.S., though, probably the first name on the roster the last few years.

& i for one don't blame him, sure beats Merseyside or Greater Manchester, or even Leverkusen on a cold Februruary morning.. :)

Well I suppose that if he's already earned enough to keep him comfortable and does alright what he's paid over there - then top man for not being consumed with the greed of most, if not all, top European players. But I wonder if the lure of the Premiership wouldn't bolster his own sense of challenge and advancement if he had the chance ? But forget the top four in London, Merseyside or Manchester. More the likes of Wigan. Now that would be a move that he couldn't refuse in comparison to the Sunshine State. :D

Even though it was a long time ago that I attended school, I seem to remember the 'Sunshine State ' being Florida.

California is the Golden State :)

You learned American geography in school ? Think that I did too. Although I can't have paid much attention because I obviously have forgotten it now. For some reason I don't feel too ashamed in admitting that .

However, I do know that Manchester is in the NE of England. *

* An "in joke" , just in case ....

I think Donovan could be lured to the Premiership if interest came in, I just think he doesn't have his agent sending out brochures all over Europe (*cough*Owen*cough*) as he's happy living in the U.S., though playing for the subpar Galaxy the last couple years could depress anyone (*cough*Beckham*cough*).

If Jozy Altidore keeps improving I think he could one day be in England plying his trade, as he's extremely strong and built for physical play.

This was the only coverage of the final game that I could find in my city's papers -

Because it's soccer, it doesn't matter if you gag up a 2-goal halftime lead!

Everybody gets a trophy!

Congrats!

This was my comment (maybe not a 100% accurate, but he really annoyed me (which isn't that hard to do))-

Come on, Rich. It's a shame you missed a chance for a great story. Besides beating the #1 in the world, we may have beaten Brazil if not for the fact that the Cup's governing body tried to make that impossible. The coach's son was red-carded, and wasn't allowed to play in the final. In the coaches own words, "it was like ripping our hearts out." I didn't see the game, but I'm also under the impression that other penalties against the boys in red, white, and blue, may have contributed to their loss. In other words Rich, we were had. Sort of like the USA basketball team in the Olympics. I wanted to see the presses reaction to the final game, but instead found your inane, irrelevant remark. I'm not much of a soccer fan myself, but how can you slough off the boys playing against great odds, and almost pulling it off. You missed a great opportunity for a great story, and that's a shame. Maybe you should seek gainful employment at KMart or something similar. What a waste.
