I have to admit, I just don't get it. I have been traveling here since 1987...almost yearly visits, and now live here. Never once have I been cheated by a taxi driver.

No, I take that back...before meters were installed, once a driver at a hotel tried to charge me a ridiculous fee. I just walked to the street and hailed another cab.

In what kinds of situations do you keep getting cheated in?

It does happen phetaroi. Often enough that numerous posters have posted about it for quite a few years.

Oh of course how totally honest are our loyal Bangkok taxi drivers. Why I'm certain I could accidentally leave any number of valuable items in their vehicle and they would be returned without delay. I'm sure a large number of poster here could testify to their honesty when asking them to quote their fares to number of tourist destinations with additional stops at equally honest tailors and purveyors of fine authentic gems.
