Because there is normally good connectivity between Thailand and Singapore and between Singapore and the rest of the world? And the price is right?

The above two questions raised may infer that having the server in Thailand might result in less efficient and more expensive service ??????????

Reliability is probably also a large consideration.

Are we saying that Thailand cannot provide reliability at the right price ?

I'm saying Thailand can't provide reliable internet infrastructure at any price.

Correct, and hosting three co-located servers in Thailand would be very expensive.

you do not have to pull a site to stop people accessing it

blocking at isp level with a court order is pretty standard fair these days

Geeze the days are gone where the average punter can just sit at home and hit the keys on his computer without worry too much about whats going on to make it all work.

I'm not really into it. Give me a fast bike, car or boat any day or even just let me chill in the hammock and let the world go by.

Can someone somewhere direct me to a site that will explain all this lingo.

For the layman like me, I have TT&T internet connection, it suppose to be 3 gig (hope thats the right word), when I do a speed test to a (PINGER- is what I call it), I always get a speed of around 2.7 or 2700kbps, give or take a bit.

When I do the same speed test to the thai visa doolackey, I get speeds of about 1.6-1.8 or 1600 to 1800kbps.

So whats the deal, who do I have to tune up? Things seem slow, <deleted>, does it all mean.

confused but neverdead :)

You have a 3Mb connection, so 2.7Mb, or 2,700kbps is appropriate for local (within Thailand) bandwidth

Thaivisa is hosted internationally, so 1.6Mb is typical as well (and would actually make some people envious).

Websites shouldn't be slow with 1Mb + connection. Perhaps your computer is a bit long in the tooth.

^Thanks for the info Surface. The PC's I use are both just 15 months old. The desktop was built by a computer geek I know back in Oz, he's very good & considering all the gear he put inside it was upper end & not cheap, I would be hoping I would get another year or 18 months out of it. The notebook was cutting edge when I got it, but still slower than the desktop, but I guess one has to expect that.

I also recently bought a new Billion ADSL router, as i felt the cheap jobbie supplied to me originally might have been partially on the blink.

Anyway, hope ur wrong about my pc, it does everything else real nicely & looks shiney too :D , dam_n technology, suppose to make life easier :)

but if its hosted outside Thailand the rest of the world still gets it even if blocked in Thailand.  One of the few countries in the world that ever has to worry about such things.  Another reason its not hosted in china ether I would assume.

Hi,

When your websites are made for European but you don't want to host in Europe, do you know if it's better to host in US than Singapore ?

It seems that international cables come to south east asia through Singapore, am I right ? But I don't know if if would be a lot better to host in US than Singapore if you want to serve Europe?

Do you also know any good hosting company in Malaysia or Singapore ?

Thanks.
