Crime Body of Newborn Baby Found in Rubbish Bin in Bangkok
Picture courtesy of Matichon. Police in Bangkok have launched an investigation after the body of a newborn baby girl was discovered in a rubbish bin in the Bang Phlat district on the morning of 20 July. The shocking discovery was made in Soi Charan Sanitwong 71, prompting authorities to begin a search for the mother. At approximately 10:30, Pol. Sub-Lt. Chul-At Suwannin and Pol. Lt. Wichpas Kanchanalertpornthawee from Bang Phlat Police Station received a report that a baby’s body had been found in a bin located in front of a residence in Charan Sanitwong Soi 71, Lane 4. Police, accompanied by volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, forensic officers and a forensic pathologist from Vajira Hospital, arrived at the scene to investigate. Inside a standard Bangkok Metropolitan Administration rubbish bin, they found the body of a newborn wrapped in a red plastic bag. Upon removing the body for examination, authorities determined the infant to be a full-term baby girl, likely born at 8–9 months gestation. The umbilical cord and placenta were still attached to the body, suggesting the child had only recently been born. No external injuries were visible. Investigators also found a trail of bloodstains leading into a nearby residential property, raising suspicions that the baby may have been born there. The person who discovered the infant, 35-year-old Ms. No San Myan The, a local resident who rents a room nearby, told police she had been disposing of household rubbish when she noticed what appeared to be a baby’s head in the bin. Shocked, she immediately alerted the landlord, who then contacted police. Ms. No San said she was unsure whether the individual who abandoned the baby lived in the same building or in a nearby residence. Police are now working to identify the mother and determine the circumstances of the baby’s death. The body has been sent for autopsy at Vajira Hospital’s forensic department to establish whether the infant was born alive and to assist with identifying the mother through DNA analysis. Authorities say the person responsible could face criminal charges under the law relating to the abandonment and concealment of a corpse and potentially infanticide depending on the results of the investigation. Current US Passport renewal process for US citizens who reside in Thailand
It takes some time to make a new passport. But if you go to Embassy and make the renewal, they will offer to mail the new passport to you when it is finished -

Current US Passport renewal process for US citizens who reside in Thailand
Currently the embassy is encouraging renewal by mail for those who are eligible. There are guidelines on the embassy website to determine that. If doing that, follow the embassy instructions very carefully and you should be OK. Check online for all the very specific rules about the photo specs as they are quite strict. For example, no open mouth smiling, no glasses, no tilted heads, etc. To do renewal by mail you do mail in your old passport (required) and eventually it is returned to you by Thai post courier envelope (which you purchase online) with your new passport. Stated estimated times are 6 to 8 weeks but recent reports have been about a month or less. However, there were recent deep staff cuts at the state department so it is unknown whether they will change the timing. Yes, you can also renew in person by appointment at the embassy. There are recent topics on the forum about details about that. Personally, I can't speak to the details about that. The info on the embassy website is limited about that perhaps because they are strongly encouraging renewal by mail. Good luck. -

My favorite eating places when you have guests.
That's a pity, I have been there a few times but the best visits were in it's early days. You know it will be be busy when you pass by and see the cars parked everywhere.... picks up the Bangkok traffic at weekends. There is a smaller Pa Boons on the other side of Hwy 36, and another on The Railway Line Bypass Rd, both not far from there. All 3 were better in their early days... they want to pack them in of late. -
