Hi All

I have just brought a Blackberry Curve 8900 on True Move. the package I have is the most expensive.... 899 per month with unlimited data, wifi etc.

Anyway i have a BB last year on AT&T from the States. With it I could hook up to Wi Fi on my home network and when a little logo saying 'UMA' appeared on the screen, it meant I could dial out anywhere in the world, free. It was awesome.

Problem is.... I cant seem to get it to work with this new handset on True Move. Any ideas?

Also if i leave instant messenger open on the handset is that going through my wifi at home, or using up my data plan?

Im wondering why i went for the 899 a month plan if i can use wi fi to fial out. I mean... what benefits are there for 899?

Any tips and tricks tips would be welcome, thanks.

Cheers!

Your data plan is for when you are out and about/ not connected to wifi.

I think wifi connection over-rides grps as default data location, so if you are connected to a wfif hotspot then data will come through there.

There is not calling over wifi though in Thailand that i am aware of via BB.

For UMA, your provider has to have the equipment to support it. It's not just on the phone end. I highly doubt True has it as there are only a few models of phone in the world that can use UMA. Plus it is mainly a substitute for a sparse cell network, but in Thailand, it is unlikely there will be a good broadband connection where there is not also a good cell signal.

The wifi logo has to be black/dark not grey for you to be using wifi for data. They only way to be sure if the data is not getting charged is to use it while connected to wifi and then check usage.
