I bought 2 days ago a brandnew Nokia E52 phone, which just came out to the market. It is a great phone, E-Mail, GPS, high speed 3G, 4 band etc. etc. 600 MHz Processor, fast, USB charging (first time for Nokia).

In GSM mode the standby time is up to 23 days, due to the 1500 Li Polymer Battery!!!

Price: 11,000 Baht at the local Nokia store.

Just want to share this with you, I think it is a great deal!

I had all these Touchscreen stuff before (IPhone, Nokia 5800)....getting sick of it and very happy to operate a "real" mobile phone again.

Cheers

A dinosaur but then some people like dinosaurs, and why not.

Me, I am hopelessly addicted to iPhone, I am actually annoyed with it. I need Android to get good, fast, so we have some choice. As it is, can I use a twitter client as excellent as Tweetie on any phone? No, I can't. So that's that.

Tweetie is a mobile app that is actually better than any desktop Twitter client I have seen. The closest one is Tweetie for OSX - but the mobile version is better still because of seamless picture and location integration. Best $2.99 I have ever spent.

Not dinosaur as such, just designed and made for people who need reliable working no nonsense phone that is capable to handle business when outside the office. Nokia E series comes from Enterprise solutions or something like that and like E71 propably the E54 is one of the best business phones ever made.

You really can't compare it to iphone that is for software geeks to develop applications and teens to play around and tweet or for adults to wear as status symbol or accessory. So yes you are right, iphone is far superior what comes to your needs. OP propably is not interested in tweeting but appreciates more the capability to connect his emails and the long battery life.

I did not measure the battery life, but it is much much better than any phone I had before.

If you are in 2G standby, no GPS / GPRS etc. I might hold min. 6-7 days for sure.

I love the phone and it is very reasonably priced (11,000 Bht).

I have the Nokia E51 and it does much more than I actually need. It somehow got wet even while in a plastic bag in my pocket during Song Kran. It was in the drawer for a month or so because it had serious problems. I bought a cheaper 5130 Xpress music which I found out is NOT compatible with my Audible books.

I found a repair shop and took the E51 there. To my amazement, they repaired the E51 for 300 baht. It works great and shows no sign that it ever had a problem. I really want a new E52 but hate to give up the E51. I do like the idea of better battery life, a 3.5 mm audio jack and the USB charging ability.

Do you people actually use all the functions on your state of the art phones? I have two Garmin GPS units and after playing with my friend's Nokia 5800, I have decided that the phone GPS function is only good for an emergency. I have not been impressed with touch screen phones and think they may be too fragile to carry in my pocket. The E51 has WIFI and I seldom use it even when it is available. EDGE works fine for checking my email.

What drives us to buy expensive phones? My E51 does everything I need and many things I don't need. The question is why do I want a new fancy phone? No phone has a decent sized keypad or screen. I already have a GPS and I take my laptop whenever I go on an overnight trip.

What I am actually doing here is trying to talk myself out of buying a new high tech phone. :)
