I have to go next saturday from Bangkok, I know the roads well from Bangkok to Khon Kaen well and it takes me about 4 hours alone and 6 with the wife :)

Your wife has the same bladder problem mine does? She still hasn't figured out the more water she drinks, the more times I have to stop.

The drive from Khon Kaen to Nong Khai should only take about 3 hours, depending on traffic and, of course, pit stops.

It is 137 kilometers from Khon Kaen to Udorn and 56 kilometers from Udorn to Nong Khai.

The road is four lane divided all the way and I would suggest you take the bypass around Udorn. Just watch for highway signs saying Nong Khai and that will throw you on the bypass.

Yes around two and a half hours, maybe a little more.

Keep your eyes open for the Police traps. There are usually a few on that road.

cheers for the heads up.

The road between KK en UT is in reasonable condition except close to UT. In UT choose the ring road, go right. The road to NK is 6 or 4 lanes and new, in good condition. Police traps not in this part, never seen them. Take care, the last 30 km to NK there are no filling stations. Fill the tank 1 minute after you leave the UT ring road, before you cross the railroad.

Sorry Prajak but I've seen police traps there on a number of occasions.

I mean speed control. Police traps I only see for papers and licences. But may be I don't meet traps because I am driving a motorcycle with a max speed of 90 km/h.....
