I'd like to do a riverside dinner cruise tonight but there are so many to choose from.

Can anyone recommend a good one? I prefer something "romantic" for my lady.

Do i have to call for reservation? Or can i jump onboard any time?

You are correct there are many. I have seen them all on the river and they are packed full of tourists. Most of them are window cruises ( you are encased in the glass with a thousand other people fighting for a scrap of food. Many people have told me the buffet runs out really quick. My preference is the Yok Yor cruise. That is a chain restaurant located on the river. It is not as "up scale" as the tourist cruises, but you get a seat at the top deck with real Thai food to order, and there is a large number of local people there as well. The bonus is that it is also so much cheaper than the Tourist "hotel" cruises. I have gone 4 times and will go again. Reservations are always recommended.

I have been on the Grand Pearl Dinner Cruise and it was very nice. You do to make reservations though and make them on the top deck. The view is not spoiled at all and you have a nice picture options. The site is:

I agree with the above. The Yok Yor cruise is more downmarket, but less cramped, more natural and you see more. There's also a commentary on the sights as you approach and pass them.

One thing i don't like about these small boat cruises is that the tables are chained, there's no privacy. I don't like the person sitting next to me listening to everything i'm saying with my girlfriend.

It was some years ago, but we went on Manohra dinner cruise.

It's a lovely boat, pretty intimate. It's a set dinner too, so no rushing for the buffet. It was romantic (tho can depend on whether there's a big dining group next to you). PRobably pricier than other options.
