Crime Chiang Mai Horror: Transwoman Seeks Justice in Brutal Assault
Photo via Facebook/ Emmy Nived Sukeaw In a harrowing case that has shocked Chiang Mai, a Thai transwoman named Bell is seeking justice after suffering a brutal assault at the hands of a man she had previously met through a dating app. The ordeal began after Bell rejected his romantic advances following their one-night stand. Bell, who narrowly escaped with her life, approached the Emmy Volunteer Team for help in filing a formal complaint at Chang Phueak Police Station. The assault happened on 18 July, escalating after she made it clear she wanted no further contact with the man. Despite her attempts to distance herself, Bell was met with stalking and controlling behaviour. The man, infatuated and persistent, began showing up uninvited at her accommodation. Matters took a violent turn when he discovered Bell in her room with another man, leading him into a rage. During the attack, Bell endured severe violence. Her assailant slapped her, hit her with a glass bottle, and threatened her life. The violence escalated as he dragged her to a nearby forest, where she was subjected to further assault and rape. Bell’s nightmare did not end there. She recounted being taken to her attacker’s accommodation, where the abuse continued despite her dire injuries. Remarkably, she managed an escape by claiming she needed to meet her sister. Before letting her go, the man forced her to conceal her injuries with makeup. Her ordeal was compounded by theft. Bell reported the man had stolen her phones, personal documents, and valuables, leaving her not only traumatised but also deprived of essential possessions. Nivad “Emmy” Sukeaw, founder of the Emmy Volunteer Team, stated in an interview with Channel 7 that the suspect remains at large. Despite being sought by the police, he has contacted Bell, seeking forgiveness and unwisely attempting to rekindle their relationship. The case highlights the urgent need for stronger protective measures and justice for vulnerable individuals. Many are calling for swift action to ensure the perpetrator faces accountability. Community advocates stress the importance of awareness and support networks for victims of such crimes, urging societal change to prevent future incidents. As the investigation continues, Bell’s bravery in speaking out serves as a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by the transgender community in confronting violence and seeking justice. The outcome of this case will be closely watched, both locally and internationally, as a measure of Thailand’s commitment to human rights and the protection of marginalised groups. The community is now eager for the authorities to act decisively and reassure the public of their dedication to justice and safety for all. Adapted by ASEAN Now from The Thaiger 2025-07-22 -

Don't chase happiness
I do agree you need SOME money, but waaaaay less than you think. The west is educated to chase and chase so you become a good little tax payer all your life. The OP was about 'happiness'. You dont need money for that. You need health and family. Again, all IN MY HUMBLE OPINION -

UK losing its identity.
I live in the south, and yes we have women here in Hat Yai that wear the hijab, though not necessarily in black, headscarves come in a variety of colours and designs, the niqab is also worn here, though less common, that's the full black dress head covering and face mask. It's all part of the rich cultural mix here in the south, no need to panic. -
