Renter's Insurance

Featured Replies

In the States when I was still renting, we bought renter's insurance to cover protection of belongings and theft and so forth.

Is that available here? If so, what have been your experiences...and recommendations for a company.

Thanks

yes it is available,we have cover for about 800,000 baht ,cost 1200 a tear from Thaisri , always been good with our car insurance ,never had to claim for house.

We had insurance for our rental house bought from an English speaking Insurance broker. For our situation we thought the policy offered by Thai Sri was best and at a very modest cost. Even the local non English speaking agent for The Viriyah Insurance company offers renters insurance at a modest cost. It is easy to compare policy coverage, but in my experience much easier when dealing with a native English speaking insurance broker. He was able to make sure we had information in English regarding the policy limits and conditions prior to making a purchase decision. This was all done via e-mail and the telephone since we live "Up Country" and the broker has an office in Phuket. It is worth your time to contact Eric Dohlon at Insurance-In-Thailand for a quote. We now have home owners insurance from Thai Sri through the same broker since his service was excellent, communication easy and it costs no more to use a broker than to attempt to deal with a "captive agent" or attempting to buy direct from the company. It is NOT the same pricing scheme as the USA. There is a sobering posting in the news section of Thai Visa on a renter from Australia who was involved in a rental house fire situation in Phuket. No coverage, years later he is thrown in jail. A very good article to read on Thai Visa.

I was just wandering, Is it possible to get insurance on a house that you are rent out, or does standard house insurance cover it?
