Hi!

As we drove by Tesco today i saw that the shop between Bumjungnoong and Samuidentalhome is closed. On the same side as Tesco, after Samuidentalhome, on the way towards Sirisin, Makro and Big C.

There was a sign now with brands like "Acer, Hp, Samsung etc".

Is there a new computer shop opening there?

Anyone know more?

take care,

comehome :)

I stopped in this morning, obviously they just still setting up, & pricing to be done on many items... but a huge selection of Computers, Laptops, etc, and they are carrying MAC/ Apple computers... that's good!

I asked if they have a Mac tech... they hope to have one within the next month... :) ... I know there are a few Mac users, on the island, so that will be very useful.

There was a huge selection of laptops, some names I had never heard of before....

Worth checking out.

Thanks, for saying that, it's one of things that drive me nuts about the TV forums... useless comments we have to wade through.... :)

Thank you, Samuijimmy for looking it up! :D

Well, they were open this morning, most things are in place, a few things have a Price list beside them, but the Price tag markers are in place...

Cameras yet to come in... But give them a week or so, & I think they will be organised...

It's nicely set up in there, clean & airy... a bit like Sirisin, just up the road, who I find give great service. (not as big)...

:D

It would be usefull having a local Mac store. ( I know there have been two that have tried, am not one to go to BKK to save a "buck"... )

"Support local business", I find in the long run it saves money when problems arise...

I have to give two thumbs up for the outstanding service a number of stores provide here on Samui. Certainly better than North America... Some day I need to increase Memory/ Ram & net work to my PC. The PC guys seem to have a problem with that, and have a Mac Attack! :)

Hi!

Went there today as well and the shop looks really nice.

Seems they have a big stock of products and they certainly did not give usual answer "have to order from Bangkok" as many other local shops do.

I am not a mac-user but i guess it is good to have a mac shop for those who uses it. :)

Hope they will survive on the island.

The shop is called BananaIT, they are a pretty large chain in Thailand, I think I read a 100 stores & 600 employes... (Never seen it anywhere else before?) So a chain like that should have pretty good buying power.

Their web page (Google it, as I don't think we are allowed to post links, of non sponsors to T.V. is very good) ... they list prices....

There you go .... "Arm Chair Shopping" !!! :)

The new store here has now got most things organized and priced....

They hope to have a Mac Tech in the next week or so....

They are competitive I purchased 2GB RAM (DDR2 / 800mhz) Kingston (lifetime warranty) for 1200 baht. In england cheapest is £20 plus delivery (ebuyer.com) so for a walk in store with stock I think very good. The same web cams they sell for 490 (if I remember correctly) are 790 in Big C so even accessories are reasonable. Staff are clueless though, never heard of MAC OS X even though they have a mac section, and the way to check RAM compatiability was to ask "you sure you have desktop no laptop"...

They have a Mac tech coming soon! So they told me last Saturday.....

Most PC sellers, whether here in Thailand or the "West" have not much of a clue :D when it comes to anything to do with Mac Computers or Software!

I must admit though I am surprised they would not call one of the other 100 stores they say they have in Thailand, who must have Mac Techies, and ask.... that would be good customer service!

I am willing to wait a while and see.... if it gets better! :) when the Mac guy arrives!!!

You usually won't see me posting negative comments on TV, there are enough already! ....

BUT ..... I reached my limit today, with Customer Service (Manager) at BananaIT here on Samui, it is extremely poor & lacking! :)

... especially if you want to return something... which I tried to do today, with 2 extra gbs of Ram that my Mac would not take (I had hoped to go from 1.5 to 4, but my Imac won't take four gbs, so now have 2 at least & Snow Leopard installed) ....

(I would give the Mac guy in there 6 out of 10 for knowing what he's doing).

I was quite prepared to take a "credit note" & use in the next week or so when Windows 7 comes in, but the useless manager, in there insisted I had to buy something there today... which I did not... and walked out! :D

It's rather stupid, it was one of the last 2 Gb Ram they had in stock... so if someone else needs they will have to wait.... (or pm me & buy my spare! 990 baht Strontium 2gbs PC667)

Last week I returned a defective Gel type mouse pad, which they did exchange, for one of a lesser price... But he (the Manager) would not give me the 80 baht difference in price!.... :D

Generally I find most stores here, bend over backwards to provide good customer service, I could name a few....... I am just dumbfounded a new store would start off on the wrong foot..... be warned!..... It's the type of store that needs us "farangs" to survive....

I also sent an email to BananaIT HQ, in BKK, complaining about the manager... it will be interesting to see if I get a response! ...

............... enough said

SamuiJimmy,

On the first point, neutral. If he handed over the memory and it was not in its original sealed packaging (I see behind the counter there are two types or packaging for the memory, the clear hard plastic packaging that you have to break open, and the hybrid black back with clear plastic front with a sticker to show its been open, so either way visible unless OEM) would you have accepted it opened, would have been a little err..-what-is-this? I know some UK stores do returns no quibble but the % of returns is built into the price as B grade goods cant commend the same price as original regardless of how vein the difference between sealed and resealed packaging, the customer forms judgement quickly. There are compatibility checkers out there that one can use in advance. From my experience and talking to others, asia return policies are slightly more real than something like M&S but I would hope it is reflected in the price.

Seeing as you were perpared for credit though instead of cash refund, the manager should of used discretion and given credit accordingly (for any reasonable period fo time) to retain a future/repeat customer.

That is out of order, defective should command a full return and apology.

Sorry I never got round to replying to your PM, it just jogged my memory seeing the name, I must of read when a little tipsy, I never got round to buying Snow Leopard from them, I had a friend bring it over shortly later.

Memory upgrade on notebook are usually done in the shop, to avoid compatibility returns....

And i'd never understood USA policy of free goods return for no reason, it means somebody will have to buy used stuff and pay more the new one....same problem for repair, swap or wait......

Oh b-gger! :D I just lost the reply/ response to Matt in preview mode.... grrrrr! In short..... now, ... I agree with your comments! It's just the store needs a better manager!

I have the SL installed ... from the "retail disk" since the CD's still have not come in... :)

As for Kosh's response a laptop is easier to carry & I would do that... Had other things to do, that needed to be done at home!

At least I have Boyd's (Mac Tech) phone number so can deal direct with issues... these guys generally willing to do with a bit of cash on the side, on their day off!

The store I shall now avoid!
