Internet In Phuket Without A Phoneline

Featured Replies

I do know that the internet connections/speed aren't the greatest in the world here in phuket :-)

But i would like to know what is reasonable here without a phoneline.

some says cat is pritty good if you buy the newest wireless dongle.

Any suggestions ?

I am using a GPRS/EDGE dongle, using both AIS and DTAC. I am happy with the speed, maximum 480 but generally varying between 100 and 300. A lot better than the ordinary phone line connection of 56 kbs.

HI

CAT CDMA, i got around 700-1300 download and upload is around 400

CAT ADSL doesn't need a telephone line/contract.

Suggest you go and delete that to avoid tech related embarrassment.

CAT CDMA wireless needs no phone line.. ADSL (being a form of digital subscriber line) most certainly does !! They will only supply the CAT high speed to a few of the digital exchanges and its harder to get CAT ADSL lines than regular ones.

I guess angiud meant that you do not need a contract for a telephone number.

CAT telecom will bring u a cable to be used only for ADSL if you are not too far from the DSLAM

I did this for my office and i can assure that is VERY stable ad reasonably fast. Can't absoluetely compare it with the TOT ADSL i have at home which is a real joke

Yeah before Maxnet and the others speeded up CAT was one of the top options.. They wouldnt run a line to me and I was still close to the DSLAM (and offered $$$) right in Patong.

I have only good things to say about my CAT CDMA dongle. It cost 10,500 bht or so and, except for some very slow speeds I suffered when I was deep in Kalama valley, I found it to be reliable anywhere a cell phone would work, (which is almost everywhere in the Kingdom). I took my laptop in and the staff set everything up and even offered a refund if I found it to be ineffective at my location. The rate is about 840 bht/ mo. and they don;t hassel you if you get behind on payment.

Of course I could not recommend it to someone who relied on their computer for large downloads, or even for quality streaming, but it was nice to be able to trade stocks will sitting at the beach, and having my own connection everywhere I went around Thailand.

Yeah, I mean no telephone contract but only the couple telephone like wire.

But the best and most reliable ADSL in Thailand, never a stop and constant 1.8/1.9 Mb on 2Mb connection.

More expensive but well spent money!

DTAC has 20hrs/month plan for 99 baht as well. :) Their EDGE is pretty dam_n reliable and great as a TOT backup.

You don´t need a telephone line for Internet from CAT.

You get a cable from them and this is only for Internet.

You cannot call with this line.

It is the best option in Thailand, pretty fast but a little more expensive.

But if your in an area where you cant get a phone line, you have almost zero chance of getting a CAT line..

I was smac in the middle of Patong and they wouldnt run a line to me.
