I don't know why, but I've always had a soft spot for them. Maybe because of their name and history ?

But it's bit sad that they are once again in danger of going the way of the dodo. So just to inform those who don't already know.

As of the 2nd of September 2009 Accrington Stanley have been told they have to pay over £300,000 by within two months or face closure as a club. Two weeks of the likes of John Terry's wages ! So away from teams who can afford to pay obscene wages and all the razzmatazz of the Premiership -- here's one for the little clubs who feed from hand-to-mouth and their loyal supporters who don't so much crave glory -- only that their club survives.

"Our next home game is on Friday 11th of September where we entertain Darlington Football Club. It would great if as many supporters could get down to the game to help put money into the pub! Il even buy you a pint , or two . (All goes to the club). However Bury fans have already pledged to bring around 200/300 fans to the game and would be great to see other fans down at the ground to watch the Reds and to put some needed money to the club.

Bury actually came up with the idea itself and with the and the arranged Burnley friendly match it just shows the unity of football clubs and the great support messages we have recieved from clubs up and down the country!"

NEXT TUESDAY NIGHT - Burnley v Accrington Turf Moor , if you can please turn up to this game, both sets of teams with good strength squads , all money is going towards Accrington. (Details TBC).

Sorry to hear of Accrington Stanley's plight - about the only suggestion I can come up with, is to P.M. Mr.B.J. and see if he can ask around the Arabs that he's working with in the M.East to see if they would like to buy a Football Club, steeped in tradition, going very cheap..... :)

Blimey Ken, I've only just finished getting em to join the Riyadh Blues, Middle-Eastlands Branch :D

Tis a shame though for Accy. This is were the councils should support the local team. Bury had exactly the same thing several years ago and they sold a seat (not literally) to raise dosh and yes, even I bought a seat :D My cousin is a big Bury fan and he was crying on my doorstep, what can a guy do when a grown man is crying in front of you :D

Rochdale are very fortunate and quite savvy, as we ground share with Rochdale Hornets and the council help out.

Where does it end you ask ? That's actually a pertinent question, albeit flippantly intended. Although most real football supporters will be genuinely saddened by the prospect of yet another club going into extinction. Believe it or not, there is actually a fraternity amongst supporters who unite under such circumstances in order to help as much as they can.

Sometimes, I personally -- whilst not actually wearing the T-Shirt -- do hold similar sentiments as written on one ...

I have just stumbled across ESC and this thread.

Just thought I would say what a great night it must be tonight hosting Newcastle in the League Cup.
