The all you can eat promotion that let you choose and eat the gracious dim sum. The home made and hand made recipe dim sum available every day from 11.00 am. To 14.00 pm. Only 189.00 baht per person.

This looks great. Maybe i should just take a train to On Nut and take a taxi over. Or any other ways of reaching there easier?

You want all you can eat top of the line dim sum? for 400 baht per person, go the JW Marriot's Chinese Restaurant for lunch.

JW Marriot? Where is that? Sorry not really familiar with Bangkok yet.

What's the timing for the lunch and is there any dress code?

Located on the second floor of the hotel with a view of Sukhumvit Road. Large windows create a bright, spacious atmosphere while the interior has wood paneling with chinese style furnishings and perfectly starched linens on the table. The restaurant can accomodate large gatherings or intimate meals, for much of the restaurant area is divided into cozy corners and niches.

This is one of the favorite dining venues for Bangkok's Thai-Chinese families and business people. Dim sum is offered at lunch and The traditional Cantonese and Szechuan favorites are given a creative twirl. Deep-fried crispy rolls, for example, are stuffed with salmon and wasabi. All the abalone dishes are on the menu, along with the shark's fin and birds nest delicacies. Seafood is tempting, especially Sichuan wok-fried prawns, baked soft-shell crab and fish maw in scrambled egg. The Bamboo fish, a river fish, has a very light and flaky texture when it is steamed to perfection. Order the Monk Jumps Over The Wall a day in advance; it makes for a perfect treat if dining with family or a group of friends. There are traditional Chinese desserts on the menu to tempt those with a sweet tooth.

The Marriott's very full wine list is available, but why not enjoy the dinner in real Hong Kong style and choose a fine XO cognac.

Impeccable service, the staff manages to combine Thai hospitality with American informality.

Set meals are a value, while ordering a la carte can bring the price to as much as 5000 baht for 2 persons

I see, might give it a try thou. Got to discuss with my other half. Well enough said about food. Seems like most of the replies i get are food.

THEME PARKS!! Any to recommend? I already plan to catch movies over @ bangkok which was said to have some of the finest cinema, for example the nokia cinema. Heard it was gorgeous. So beside eating, shopping. Any other activities? I will be avoiding Patong for sure, my friends that went recently got rip off from a show and some lady drinks. End up paying a heafty amount before allowed to leave the place.

Please do recommend some fun stuffs to do. =D

Can I ask a silly question, why the facination with theme parks and crap like that? This is Thailand, not Disney World.

Not really a facination, just thinking that it's bangkok and it should have some fun rides in the theme park thou. Well if there is really no such nice and fun theme park around. Any other choices of visits?? activities?? shopping areas beside Pratunam area as i already had plans for Pratunam such as Platinium Mall, Big C, CentralWorld, Pantip and so on..

For "Theme attractions", how about Eden?

As for Marriot. I read that the Dim Sum Buffet is 600++ Bht. So is it 400++Bht or 600++Bht? Anyone can clarify?

honestly I cant rember the exact cost but it was around 500 baht or. Anyways, if it is 200 Baht more, skip breakfast and take on about 10 extra orders of Dim Sum mate. Excellent.

Haha. Sure will do. Might even consider skipping the previous night dinner =D.

?? What is Eden ?? Seriously.. clueless about it.

By the way, the carabat show @ AsiaHotel. Is it worth the money? Heard it was pretty good and they have packages that come with either internation buffet at their hotel cafe or dinner at the Brazilian restaurant Rio. Anyone went for any of these packages before??

Prakked Chula Soi 22 is next to Chulalongkorn Univ.

Easiet was is to take the sky train to national stadium then jump on a tuk tuk or a taxi.

If you exit from the Pathumwan Princess hotel (facing towards south/rama4) go right until the t junction.

Go left (only way you can go) all the way to Chula 22. Go right and its the shop on your right at the 1st little intersection.

Ed_n is an institution in Bangkok - a must visit for any first-timer. Located about 100 meters up the renowned Sukhumvit Soi 7 /1, for more than a decade, this establishment (despite its name), has nothing to do with gardens and has held a long hard well-earned reputation amongst followers.

Not really a place to be seen because of their one drink policy, nevertheless it is a nice place to visit after a long day of shopping.

So I have heard.

It's a small friendly fish resturant on soi 7/1.

Thanks for the replies, any places that you guys recommend for a great dining experience which has to be value for money too. =D Another place i might try out is the lunch special for Izuki < cant remember how is it spelled @ century plaza as well. JF reviewed that the food was quite nice and valued for money.

Hello...nice to see folks are paying attention... Izuki is fine...mostly inexpensive.... But you mentioned Niku at the Emporium above, and I'd say the Tuesday thru Friday lunch specials at Niku, served until about 4 pm, are a great meal and hard deal to beat, plus.... it's easy to access via the Phrom Phong BTS station and you're already there at the Emporium shopping center, which is a pretty good place (but not cheap) for shopping... Browsing, though, is free!!!.

That's a shabu shabu/ sukiyaki style place. If you want Thai style also, the place mentioned above is OK...but a bit harder to get to. In that category, my favorite at the moment is a place called Best Beef, located on Sukhumvit Road just a 5 minute walk back inward to town from the On Nut BTS station. All you can eat for 200 baht. I've never had a bad buffet or gotten food poisoning there...something I can't say about some other Thai BBQ/buffet places.

Among other activities, you ought to book a Chao Phraya dinner river cruise... Spending a night on the river is a great experience for Bangkok. There are quite a few companies and restaurants that offer this service, and fair share of them are touristy ripoffs.... One that is good and well priced (you pay just for your ordered food and drink off the regular restaurant menu, but nothing extra for the two-hour cruise, is done by the Dairy Queen Thai Restaurant in Nonthaburi... You'll need to take a taxi there from central BKK, as no mass transit access... But taxi fares are cheap... They also have a web site, I believe, and it's no relation to the U.S. burgers place of the same name...

If you're looking for other suggestions or categories of things, just PM me.... Never been shrimp fishing in BKK, though, I do recall reading some posts here on ThaiVisa talking about that activity. Do a TV search using those key words...

Ekamai Soi 1 is easy to access via the Ekamai Station on the BTS Sukhumvit line... It's just about two stops further outward from downtown beyond Phrom Phong, where the Emporium is located.

Dont know what your experience of theme parks is, but Thailand is hardly a world leader in this field, and their safety records are poor...There is Suan Siam, out Minburi area of Bkk, which has a few rides and rollercoasters and a water park, or there is Dreamworld near the old Airport..all taxi drivers should know these 2 locations....Disneyland they are not, but its something to do..once is enough, i doubt you would return...most travel agents offer a variety of day trips on other attractions which give you some further ideas..you could go to the Seaworld under Siam Paragon...its quite interesting, and you can get there by BTS

Theres a nice little ambient restaurant opposite the drive in entrance to Ambassador Hotel, called Gallery (just tucked in the small avenue soi)..cant remember now if its soi 11 or soi 15 off Sukhumvit.... anyway, its Thai food, and pretty tasty and not expensive..i reccomend you try the wing bean salad with minced pork (yam tuwur poo)

As for Eden, i think some of the posters were pulling your p*sser...and had you have gone there, you would have got it pulled some more...although they do offer 2 for 1 deals....allegedly :)

Really oishi? Why in gods name woule you bother eating there its like going to japan and eating at sizzler because they have the cheapest american style steaks in town . Your coming to thailand to eat you really should try and get to some better spots than the list yoiu have put forth forget the malls all the food there is one step above airport food , at least check out or tor kor market tons of great thai food in a clean market there is a killer chicken and somtum place in the markets parking lot just look for the giant plastic chicken with a motorcycle helmet on there is always a big line at lunch so be warned one of the best seafood places is right by bon marche market near mochit bts station, but its not cheap by any means about 1500 per two people, for fancy kind of interesting thai bolan is a great place. Kinaree is usualy a pretty decent thai place, jok kitchen is fantastic for crab and other chineese/thai Style seafood tons of good places to eat in bangkok , but there are plenty of horrible places do some reaserch on any of the thai food blogs online, happy eating are you bringing kids?

OK, I'll toss out a couple you may want to try. Oishi Grand Buffet at Siam Discovery Siam Discovery is a shopping mall between the Siam & National Stadium Skytrain Stations (north side of the tracks an easy walk from either station). The food is mostly Japanese but not exclusively. Even the food courts at nearby shopping malls Paragon or MBK are quite good. Royal Dragon Restaurant, Mang Korn Lung I have not been there yet, But it might be interesting. They are supposed to have good seafood. It was the world's largest restaurant. It might be number 2 now as Syria has number 1 now. Still, it might be fun to check out. Here is their website. http://www.royal-dragon.com/aboutus.htm Cheers
Oishi Grand Buffet sounds nice, what is the price per person? As for Royal Dragon is it really that good? Anyone tried before?? Comments??
Come on you guys, you don't visit Bangkok to go eat at Oishi - Japanese equivelent to Pizza Company.

Ok so big c is not somewhere you want to go on vacation ists a grocery store ... Unless your collecting different laundry detergent from around the world its a waste of time how about the weekend market or the night bazzar and a kick boxing match, or the floating market, as far as amusment parks your pretty much out of luck if you find a pace with a roller coaster well yor taking your risks with that one , only theme park I can really think of that's worth going to is noong nooch tropical gardens but that's in pattaya about a 2 hour ride or so. For mall shopping some of these have been mentioned before paragon, central world, central chitlom, gaysorn, amarin, mbk, the market behind thai airways building

Posted

Nong Nooch Gardens near Pattaya is a really nice place to visit....if you're out in that area... Probably can arrange some day trip thru a local travel agent. The BKK Zoo near Victory Monument is a nice place to visit during the day also...and not expensive...though they also have a dual price ticketing policy.

Siam Ocean World in the basement of Siam Paragon is OK if you like aqualife.... But their ticket price is a ripoff for tourists...and the venue doesn't compare to some of the nicer aqauariams back in the U.S. If you can manage a local ticket, then it's OK for a single visit... We had an extensive thread discussing their dual pricing policy, and how to avoid it, here lately.

For shows, go see Siam Niramit cabaret show.... and/or, depending on your tastes.... go to the Tawandang Germany Brewery nightclub on Rama III Road (a ways from the Silom area) for very good food and a Thai nightlife experience with live music.

If you want to spend a bit of dough for a nice night out, visit the rooftop skyscraper venues known as Vertigo or Sirroco, where you can sit outdoors and have a panoramic view of Bangkok from the 62nd or 63rd floor... They'll do dinner too...but you'll be paying a big big bill for the privilege.

I would love to do a river cruise trip with my loved one. But she get sea sick easily even on a very when it is very calm. So i don't really think she will enjoy it. As for BEST BEEF. It's already in my places to enjoy a dinner list. Saw the pictures that you took and it seems nice. I guess the longest post that i seen you posting in was the best burger post and you all were talking all about burgers. Haha. Think i might pop down to one of the places mentioned to try one of their burgers. I did booked tickets for a carabat show, hope it will be great. located in Asia Hotel - Clayspo Carabat.

Best Beef is about a 5 minute walk back inward towards town from the On Nut BTS Station. Get off on the same side as the Tesco-Lotus store there and go back toward the Phra Kanong BTS station a few blocks. You can choose from their buffet with a grill to cook your foods at 200 baht, or 249 baht for a soup/stock pot to boil them shabu style. All the entree items available in the buffet are listed on a double sided Thai/English menu card. What that doesnt tell you, however, is that the buffet also allows you to order any of the vegetable dishes they have on their regular menu as part of your buffet, such as Chinese cabbage, asparagus, etc etc. They're only open from late afternoon until late... no lunch there.

The cabaret show at the Asia Hotel (I've stayed there, but never gone to the show) is a ladyboy show, of course. There's also a decent Rio Grille restaurant there that serves a Brazilian style (grilled meats) buffet meal. Not great, but not bad.

Burgers in BKK are a tough call... And part of the judgement depends on whether you are (and your style is) an American or from elsewhere. For American style burgers, the lunch specials at the Outback Restaurant at Siam Discovery Center, near Siam Paragon, are pretty good. And it's basically the same restaurant as the Outback's found in the U.S. For fast food, there's also a lot of Burger Kings around the touristy areas of BKK, including at the Emporium and Siam Paragon... And for a night out, the burgers and BBQ food at the Hard Rock Cafe in Siam Square are pretty good, with a live band and dancing there later into the evenings. Of course, BK, Outback and HRC are all pretty much American outlets that you'll also find back in the U.S. For a Thai version of hamburgers and steaks that's not bad, you could try the Chokchai Farms Steak House on Sukhumvit Soi 21, about 5 blocks above Sukhumvit Road... Good service, good prices, and decent hamburgers and steaks there...a short walk from the Asoke BTS Station.

I'll repeat my recommendation for the Tawandang German Brewery on Rama III road a bit away from Silom. It's a place for all ages, big hall, live music and shows all night... good mix of Thai and farangs... They brew their own beers there, and their food speciality is a very good roast pork dish. It's a fun, enjoyable, reasonably priced, no hassle place where you cant help but have a good evening. And the music usually is a mix of Thai and western favorites, along with some comedy and other routines, depending on the night.

But if you really want a 100% Thai evening out, visit the Tawandang nightclubs on Soi Pattanakarn in the Klong Tan area... Despite the similar name, I don't believe they are any relation to the abovementioned place. There are two clubs here, each directly opposite the other along Soi Pattanakarn... One side is Country Tawandang, with Thai country music (ala Carabao), and on the other side is Isan Tawandang, with Isan music and food, along with on-stage dancers and some skits. Again, no hassle, no attitude, fun for all, though these big indoor hall places are mostly Thai so it helps to either speak/understand a bit of Thai, or find a Thai to accompany you. That said, even if you go alone as a farang, you won't feel out of place... They are welcoming toward all.

Posted

Most likely, depending on where you're staying, you can take the BTS Silom line to the Chong Nonsi Station, and then about a 10 minute taxi drive to Tawandang...

See their web site and map at this link.

Thais call it "LongBeer YerMan" and it's on Rama III. so in Thai, you'd say "Thanon Param Sam". And "go" in Thai sounds like "buy"

So you could tell the taxi driver, "Buy LongBeer Yerman, Thanon Param Sam."

Their web site also suggests printing out their map and giving it to your taxi driver.

I somehow research and found this place. Sabai Jai a.k.a Baan Tawan Gai Yang @ Ekkamai soi 1. How do i get there, if i am not wrong there's a Sky Train Station around that area. Is that place within walking distance? Anyone went there recently?

Baan Tawan Gai Yang is an excellent restaurant on soi Ekkamai. For my tastes, the gai yaang is good but not that special, however, they serve terrific seafood dishes at reasonable prices. Its probably not familiar to many on thaivisa since its essentially a thai restaurant. Worth the visit and excellent value, however, it is quite a walk from the BTS Ekkamai, even tho' it is close to Ekkamai Soi 1. Its about a block past Big C, on the opposite side of the street.

Think that JFChandler mentioned Siam Niramit, which has an excellent dinner show and located at the Thai Cultural Center. It costs about 1500 baht and if you want a cheaper alternative, you can check out Silom Village, which has a good dinner show. Altho' its not as elaborate as the Siam Niramit, its a great value at 600 baht including dinner. Call the Ruen Thep restaurant, 02-235-8760, to make reservations and get directions. Or just jump on a cab from BTS Silom. Its a 5 minute ride.

Someone mentioned the Ancient City which is worth a visit. It is in Samut Prakan, and located relatively close to the Crocodile Farm. I think that Safari World is also worth visiting with your girlfriend. Its a bit hot and a little primitive version of other wildlife sanctuaries/shows but its pretty entertaining. The Calypso show at the Asia Hotel is fine but go early to get a good seat, otherwise you will pay a lot of money and get seated in the back of the room. You might consider a day or two at the Thailand Open (tennis) at the Muang Thong Thani Center, by the old airport. PM me if you need more info.
