I am looking to buy a van to travel around the country for a bit. The Toyota d4d commuter mini buses are probably the most convenient in regards to service and spare parts, and fitting it out with lcd tv and large leather seats. However they are a bit of a stiff ride. Can anyone recommend a vehicle? It is basically going to be for 3-4 people max and 2 dogs. The Chevys' look nice but they are dated and service parts etc..is an issue, as well as fuel consumption. The Mercedes look very comfortable but then again...It would be great to hear from those in the know!

If i were you i would stick to some thing Japanese (manifactured in thai i gue´s) even if i love those big Amercian Vans , got 4 my self here in Falangland and been driven them for years! But as you say , parts , service and such for foreign cars where to get it in Los and to what price , is it really worth it?

This is what i found at http://www.thaicar.com/ last time i looked for a Van ( see below) .. tempting isnt it? :)

1,2 or 4 mill baht?

10/km/litre or 5 km/litre?

Auto or manual gear?

Commuter is approx 1,2 mill baht, 10 km/litre and manual gear only. High end Toyota in the other end of price- and -fuel together with Caravelle.

Hyundai is a comfy and rather inexpensive choice in LOS with powerfull diesel and auto. Like 1,5 mill as I recall.

Well a couple of mill isnt that expensive really for a new car if you compare to falangland but on the other hand i never owned a new car or van here so why should i do it in Los?

It´s just the silly price of used cars in Los i cant deal with yet! :)

Toyota Ventury or Majesty (if you can afford), are the best vans for comfort.

VW also very nice, but much more expensive.

Commuter is the bottom of the range minivan/bus version.

Toyotas are still designed for parcel delivery with suspension to match. If you can afford it there are only 2 which gives a degree of comfort for all passengers and that is the VW Caravell or MB Vito as it is called over here. Both you can get with custom interiors to a high level of finish. My choice is the MB as it is the only van with rear air suspension.

Of course if you are not fussed about the comfort of the passengers or the finish quality then go for the Toyotas.

Those prices don't seem so silly when it comes time to sell.

Depends on what you payed the first time doesnt it? :)

If you look at the Benz Vito... 2.2 CDi Auto

the 2005 model is around 850,000 baht

the 2001 model is around 750,000 baht

The Kia Pregio

the 2002 is around 240,000

2006 around 300,000

here in the philippines more and more are buying the H1 or hyundai grandstarex as its know over here.. my personal opinion would be to choose the hyundai.. its definitely more value for money with 4 wheel disc brakes and other safety features. and the biggest reason as to why i would get it over the toyota is the comfort factor.. it is way so much more comfortable than any of the hiace variants. so give it try..
