Temporary Importation Of Car

Featured Replies

has anyone successfully temporarily imported a car into thailand using a carnet de passage. Want to bring a Porsche in.

If the owner is a resident in Thailand does it make a carnet non valid.

thanks for any advice

Thailand does not use or recognize the Carnet. You can temporary import for 30days at a time (do not ship your car to Thailand. Ship to Malaysia) . Major hassle. Some one else will be along soon to explain more.

Also think about things like who is going to service your Porsche, can it run on 91 or gasahol95. is the cost, hassle really worth it. The roads here are bomb craters ready to blow your suspension.

As stated the carnet is not accepted.. The ATA carnet (for sporting events or commercial goods) might be accepted.. But in general a non Malay car needs to have a massive (and I do mean massive.. Multi million baht) cash or bank guarantee bond left.

95 petrol is available at some pumps, like Shells V-Power. But many euro sportscars need 98 which is not available in LOS

I was sitting  at a restaurant the other day and up drove a 500sl convertible. The German owner sits behind my table and starts talking about his A/C seats etc.  I left a bit later and looked at the car and it was on European plates.  I also heard him talking about going to KL in the car, so maybe he brought it in there under their Malaysia my 2nd home program, but that really wouldn't explain the Euro plates.

My Honda Type R engine need petrol 102 which is available in Japan and I just modify the ECU to use local 95

Theres a Range Rover that drives around Patong.. It came in on uk plates and first tried the Malay border and failed.. then reshipped it to Cambo and it seemed to make it through the Cambo border ($$$) and was here riding round on its UK plates..

I am not sure but I have since seen an identical RR on Thai plates so maybe he managed a way through.
