Seems that they have changed the taxi arrangements again.

Arrived last night and wandered around as all the taxis had disappeared. Just to find out after walking loops following the signs that they have been moved downstairs first floor. You can enter the que from doors 4 and 7.

Anyways i did the trek downstairs and they had proper thai system of stainless fencing and the usual chaos as it was not clearly marked and there was no signs etc. But now they had 3 desks, those check-in style counters and the girls behind them had all blue vests confirming they have paid someone to get permission to be there from someone.

Well improvement on the counters but far away and difficult to find, especially if it is your first time in scampy.

And other thing was that there was 30m que and it was late night so the airport was deserted. Had to wait 15 minutes sweating and watching the 100 free taxis standing at door 4 que before they got any cars to door 7 :)

Oh why they just cant use the airport as it was designed with 10, yes ten exits from arrival. Now they have basickly fenced it off and closed 90% of the doors and escalators to public just coz they are not able to control few taxi touts...

And they call this a "modern facility" - what a frakking joke !

Ten exits and only a few doors in use; maybe they shuld put food stalls in the doors that arent being used !

PanRoy Baht, mai pen rai. the drive will be sober, not take you for a ride and not get you robbed. I stopped using the car service from the J.W. inbound as there is a wait. Reo Reo.. You can still go up to the arrivals floor - Door 10 far end - and walk out to the far island where the inbound regular taxis stop to pick up outbound passengers. Or at least you could when I went through 6 days ago. Never ad a problem but check that they will use the meter (or negotiate a price) before handing over your luggage/getting in.

I don't expect it will be allowed to continue too much longer - it works too well and TIT

So you have to go down the escalator again like when it opened?

Yep, down the escalators, did not see any buses down there so i guess they "refenced" the whole place.

Arrivals is ok if you want to save 50 baht but even longer walk...

I bet they manage to change the location of the airport train terminal as well every 3 months :)

Nah they just located it so you will still need to take a taxi into town.

If it ever opens of course.

spoke to a cabby on the way home yesterday.

He mentioned that there is new airport management, who have so far managed a relative effective crack down on the 'taxi mafia' at the airport, with taxi's being exclusively downstairs as part of the arrangement. For him, proof in the pudding is that the average waiting time for him now is 1 hour versus the usual four hours, meaning that there really are less illegal taxis pinching his rides. Lets see how long this all lasts.

Also I note there are new signs at the baggage pick up point stating the options to get into town. AOT taxi, bus, and public taxi.

While I was confused about the new/old location, I found it well signposted. The new counters there make a nice change from the 1960's desks they used to have.

I agree with Samran, the new public transport options are pretty well signposted with large decals IN YOUR FACE AT EYE LEVEL on each baggage carousel. Then multiple huge signs to direct you from each and every exit from baggage claim/customs.
