Thai Karaoke Bars

My friend can sing a song or two..(ehh *cough).. But we hoped to get in contact with some pretty girls that we have seen outside some Karaoke bars. Any specific locations we should check out?

If the Karaoke bars in Bangkok are anything like the Karaoke bars in Chiang Mai they are "sort of" reserved for Thai men, or farangs fluent in the Thai language. You are welcome to visit, drink, and enjoy the singing (?), but the ladies are for the Thai men in a sort of un-written law.

There are a whole string of Thai karaoke bars within walking distance of my Hotel in Chiang Mai. I hear their screaching music (?) each night as it echos across the pond outside my hotel. I've visited the bars a few times, but a few discussions with Thai men set me straight about the women. Unless you can speak Thai fluently you will never know whose girl you are trying to hustle. If it happens to be a short tempered Thai guy who thinks you are trying to steal his girl then there WILL be trouble. Many of the girls who work the karaoke bars stay in my Thai hotel. I've had a few talks wth them as well and most speak little or no English.

I agree pretty much with what Maigo6 wrote. I stay in Chiang Mai and the Karaoke bars are mostly Thai. The girls there often don't speak English and I would be very careful fraternizing with them in any case. You don't know if the girls are already spoken for by some jealous Thai man. Even if you are just being friendly it could be taken the wrong way. But, if you just go to have a beer and listen to the locals you'll be welcomed. They might even ask you to sing... as they have done with me.

I go to these places around CM with pals sometimes, you get a cute young girl squeezing up against you in no time, no lady drinks they usually share what you drink (and eat), 10bht a song (they sing) and they will expect a tip at the end of the evening. They don't speak English but that doesn't seem to be a problem. Not cheap though, rarely get away with a bill of less than 500bht each (and maybe 100bht for a particularly friendly lady)

We never approach the ladies, they come and sit with us ...... how could that cause a problem?

i go to lots of thai karaoke bars in isaan, allways made very welcome, i usually pay 120 thb for a big leo beer with ice and the company of a lady ( usually a laos girl ) though i sometimes cannot be bothered to try make conversation with them, i just go in for a drink to get away from the daily hum drum of the villiage. ive never went into karaoke in bkk or pattaya though. a bar girl recently told me that the bar girls go in there after work if theyve had a good night with some generous farang, they will ask the thai guys to sit with them and they will buy the thai guys beer or whiskey , they call these young thai guys " american thai,s " and i was astounded when i asked the girl do they have to pay to have boom boom with these guys , she replied 2 off course they pay american thai,s dont boom boom for free " !!
