There are some circle trips around Chiang Mai. Get maps from Budget Car Rental or the Dhoi Kham Royal Project.

A great geyser outside of Chiang Mai on the Pai Road.

Check out the Orange Farms north of Fang. They are fantastic. One is over 800 rai. These are manicured gardens and the oranges will rival any thing in the states. They give tours.

On the road from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai ,indeed there ar some geysers ,closer to Chiang Rai the wonderful gardens of the King Mother , further the highest mountain of Thailand ,spectacular vieuws ,deep in the cave of the mountains ,very special Budda's,the " golden triangle " crossing the Mekhong to Laos on Longtail. All this can be done from Chiang RAI as base .DO NOT FORGET to vist the " WHITE TEMPLE " designed by a Thai architect - to compaire with GOUDI of Barcelona !!!

Ansd of cource the mountain tribes and very special BUDDA'S LOST CHILDREN whom ar living in the mountain and at 5 AM they come down from the mountain on horseback !!!!!!!!!!!!!

VERY - VERY special !

Hope you will enjoy ! Josef

Thx for all the answers :D

If there is more you think would be worth stopping by, your welcome to right... :)

Good day to you all...

If you are going up to Chiang Rai there is always Doi Tung, the home of the Princess Mother, and a really interesting place is The Hall of Opium where you can easily spend 3 hours. In the opposite geographical direction Si Satchanali & Sukhothai are great if you like historical sites & there is always Doi Inthanon, the highest mountain in Thailand and a good place to escape the heat and wander in quiet places. Chiang Dao is good for the mountain temple & the caves, not to mention good Thai & European food at The Nest 1&2. Nearer home a lunch at the Ekachai floating restaurant on Mae Ngat in Sri Lanna National Park is a pleasantly different way to fill in a few hours, along with a swim in the lake.

If you get to Doi Tung and plan to visit the Golden Triangle (Mae Sai) there's an interesting and very scenic road that connects the two places - great scenery as it runs right along the border on a ridge, don't be put off by the army checkpoints at both ends, it's safe in daylight hours and the scenery is worth the effort!

the best bikeride is to nan, you first have to go to phayao town, then chaing kham, then it is sign posted to nan, beautiful mountains, roads are very good. you mite want to stop in chaing kham and stay the night, there is a kfc and some good eating places.
