November 24, 200916 yr Where is the current best place on Soi Rang Nam for some decent Thai food? Somewhere where you're dining in reasonably pleasant surroundings, suitable to take some newly-arrived tourists to sample some decent Thai cuisine (so, could be touristy Thai food, not necessarily real local-style). Reason for mentioning Rang Nam is that they're staying just round the corner.
November 24, 200916 yr Not sure of the name, but if you're coming down from the top end, with the sea food restaurant on your right, there's an excellent Thai place a few meters past it. You'll notice it as the building is set a little back from the road with chairs for smokers on a small deck outside. It's got large plate windows with wooden surronds and a wooden door. Sorry can't be more specific, but when you pass the seafood place, it would be hard to miss. Be lucky, the food's, the menu varied, and the prices value.
November 24, 200916 yr I live on Rang Nam and often go to B-Resto on the corner of Soi 3 (near the park) they have good fusion style food and while it's not the cheapest place on the street the food is good and it's quite a nice place. For good Isaan food Tida Isaan is great..it's at the top end of the soi very near the BTS and Century movie plaza. It's popular with tourists and locals alike, they have a huge menu and very fair prices. The street is also dotted with a number of noodle shops that can't be beaten if you're just after a quick snack..a number of these places also offer duck on rice which is a real treat for some.

This place sounds good - but which end of the soi do you mean as the "top end"? The end with Century Movie Plaza or the other end?

November 25, 200916 yr Author OK thanks - will have a wander down there, but Baan Ajarn sounds like it's worth a try, as do the places suggested by Hardback (I'm already familiar with Tida Isaan by the way).
February 1, 201016 yr One of my favorites is this outdoor food stand in front of ESSO gas station, at the corner of Ratchaprarop and Rang Nam. Usually packed until 9:30 or so. Isaan food and nice place for a relaxing outdoor beer.. 5 years+ and never sick of it. Good for newbies too. Muu Yang/grilled pork and ngieu yang/grilled beef, some of the tastiest I've had in Thailand. I found it delicious even when I first came!
