For me the issue is about the attack.

You have to really give the benefit of doubt for some selections,eg, Heskey, J.Cole. But I put them in as they are proven class, J.Cole in particular is one of our few flair players.

Honoured to be the first poster with my first XI:

Could just as easily swap in Gerrard into LM and put Carrick in centre too, or even Barry or Wright-Phillips in at LM... or Adam Johnson's looking quite good for RM atm too...hmmm....

Back four looks pretty solid, as usual! Left wing is definitely a moot spot though, I feel.

Wish we had another true-blue striker to draw on as well - pretty disappointing to see Agbonlahor left out, but it's really only Rooney that stands out as a world-class talent upfront. It's an indictment on the glamour buys of imported strikers in the premiership that the best in the league are mostly foreign.

But then Crouch does do the job more often than not, even if we often don't expect it, so who knows, maybe he'll shine this WC...!?

Stephen Warnock,

Matthew Upson,

Tom Huddlestone,

Darren Bent,

Emile Heskey.

Upson's had his chances really... as has Heskey.

Bent's ok, but I don't think we need the tough 'holding' boys like him and Heskey so much when we've got Rooney, and Defoe would be a better stand-in for Rooney than Bent if worse came to it (please, please, please don't let it come to it though!)

i can see well-organised teams stifling the hel_l out of england in this world cup and just letting england have the ball in front of them then looking to counter-attack against them. the goalkeeper is crap, the two centrebacks are injury prone and error prone, barry's probably not fit nor is hargreaves so no top class sitting midfielder, they have a non-scoring striker and the team will be overly reliant on rooney.
