A week or so after changing my avatar to the 'Red square' photo of me flicking through Cd's, it suddenly one day reverted back to a picture of a toilet roll holder which I had uploaded miles away and ages ago on a totally different and un-related PC.

Last night I changed it to a leaping salmon and this morning it's gone back to the red square.

So I've changed it again to a photo of me with my head on fire but it hasn't changed, it's still on the red square, but somewhere on another PC it could be any of the above for all I know.

What's going on there then?

Its the fish for me.

Try clearing down your cache/cookies/internet files - this problem usually goes away after you've done that.

Should it be a sillouette with it's head on fire now?

it's a caching problem either at your own pc as wolfie said or at your proxy cache from your provider

Computers are very easy. Use the K.I.S.S. principle like I do = Keep it Simple Silly.

On the udder hand, are you fishing for an answer ? (opps, sorry could not resist that one)

To change my Avatar, I too had some problems until I realised that if I deleted the old one first and then uploaded my new one, it came up very quickly. Try it.

Do not forget to throw away your cash first (cache)
