Hi,

Another quick question from me, here goes..

Can anyone point me in the direction of where to buy tshirts that are just plain (no words or drawings on them). I want to buy a few before I go home in a few weeks but whenever I ask the Tshirt sellers in the night bazaar they all laugh and tell me they don't have any and don't know where to get them but surely there must be a supply for all the prints they get done. Would either of the department stores have them? I'm potentially interested in buying quite a few so it'd be good if they were cheap (< 100b ea.).

Thanks. :)

I tried a few years ago to get 100 plain tshirts, never managed it. They all seem to arrive here with logos etc. Worrorot Road was suggested to me but I had no joy there either.

Pleased to hear if anyone knows of anywhere, and somewhere you can get unbranded baseball caps to fit a caucasian adult would be of interest.

Thanks

Iain

Interesting, I just assumed that they'd be printed locally but apparently not! As for the price, I'd be happy to pay up to around 250 as that's about what they go for back home. Under a 100 would be especially nice though. :)

PS: Merry Xmas all!

Thanks but I can't speak Thai and have no idea where the Ricombe markets are! Google doesn't really help either but oh well, hopefully this helps someone else. :)

I have seen loads of plain T shirts at the "export" clothing shops for 79-99baht. There is one on Huay Kaew rd near the canal rd and there are a couple in Kad Suan Kaew, and a few at the Airport ctr.

The problem with these places is each store has slightly different stuff and the size and color selection is limited, so you might have to check a couple of stores.

Tesco Lotus, especially the one out on the Hang Dong road, has plain t-shirts with no print on them at very low prices.

Second this, saw them only yesterday.

Just got back from Tesco Lotus in Hung Dong. They had white, black and grey tshirts for about 60b each and a 3 pack of white ones for around 130. Very happy with the price considering a single shirt would set me back around 300b back home. The only thing to watch out for is that all the shirts are really thin, so much so that the white ones are pretty much completely see through. I only want them for undershirts so it's not so much of an issue but I thought it might be worth mentioning.

Thanks for the fantastic help all, I really appreciate it!! :)

hi, just for anyone still interested. There are some good earlier threads on this same issue in the chiang mai forum. so if you can persist with the different search options and key words then you will find them.

These mentioned the problem with quality and one reader recommended the "double duck" (or was it double goose?) brand, which I have seen in the market area just up from the central flower market.

i know because I looked into getting some plain ones in bulk (to get printed with my own design) just a few months back. i didn't send up pursuing this idea so I can't provide a specific recommendation - sorry.

There were Double Goose ones in Tesco also for about 100b IIRC. As for the quality, it really isn't much worse than the stuff back home - most of it is made over here or in China anyway.. if you want top quality you pay top dollar.

Sawasdee Khrup, Khun Rigby,

Our experience with those thin t-shirts is they come apart after several washings by our local launderers. The "double goose" type lasted a bit longer.

The so-called "export" quality t's you'll find, at times in the lobby of Pornthip, sometimes on the ground floor of Carrefour, etc. seem to be of much better quality material and stitching, and last a long time.

Hope you get more mileage out of the ones you bought here than we did.

There are a few shops on the south street that runs by the Worrorot Market. Most of these shirts are brought in from BKK. They wear a little small because they are made in Thai sizes, with narrow shoulders. Most shirts are 75 to 85 Baht.

There are also a lot of shirt shops near Nimanhamen that have shirts and do the printing. Their shirts are broader in the shoulders for the size and fit foreigners better. You have to be careful because most, if not all, of these shops no longer screen print their shirts. They screen print on a piece of parchment and iron them on the shirt. They all claim to do silk screening so the only way to tell is by looking at the shirts they have done. Iron ons do not last and peel off after a few years. They also do not breath with the shirt.

I buy all my plain T-Shirts at Tesco Lotus and never had a problem with quality. I wear them in hot weather as T-Shirts and at this time of year as vests. They last me for years.

Warrorot is where I found some decent plain tshirts too - the Tesco shirts I saw were crap. If you're walking south from the top of Wichayanon Rd. there's a good shop on the right side just past all the street food. They have piles of plain tees in a bunch of different colors. Think they were 80-100B.
