item--8-- Events to mark Thai National Children’s Day are to be held in many locations in Phuket while the Prime Minister urged young people be aware of the importance of education and to strive for lifelong learning.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has urged children and youth to be aware of the importance of education and to strive for lifelong learning. In his message marking National Children’s Day 2009 tomorrow, the Prime Minister cited children and youth as important resources and the future of the country. As this is a world of modern technology and communication, which has changed rapidly and led to the knowledge-based society, children and youth must develop themselves through both formal and non-formal education. He stated that children and youth played a crucial role in making Thai society a livable place by learning to lead their lives a democratic society and to co-exist with other people in a spirit of respect for one another. Thailand celebrates National Children’s Day on the second Saturday of January each year. This year, National Children’s Day falls on January 9th. The Prime Minister has given a slogan for National Children’s Day 2009: “Thinking Wisely, Purifying Minds, Lighting Up Dreams, and Creating Unity and Love.” Like every province nationwide, in Phuket many organizations are organizing activities for children to celebrate Children’s Day in various locations. At the provincial Hall compound, many activities will be arranged for children including a visit to the governor’s office. The Butterflies and Insects world will also open its door for children to learn about life circle and magnificent world of the butterflies and insects plus many games and gifts. In Patong, its not only on Patong beach where the Patong Municipality plan to arrange fun-filled games, free rides, prizes and food and drinks for children free of charge, but a big balloon fair will also be held at Jungceylon shopping mall. The Deep Sea Port is another popular location for kids as it is a great opportunity for children to explore Royal Thai Navy’s ship and take a close look at helicopters. The queue there is usually quite long at this location. If you want an indoor experience, the Phuket Aquarium also opens its doors free of charge for children and families on this special day.
