January 23, 201016 yr It isn't "extraordinary". It isn't authentic. It's forced. You've made plenty of usage errors hence the pages and pages of language battles. It wouldn't bother me if it didn't result in flooding these threads with off-topic posts - like this one is turning out to be. Remember, no matter what words you use, your basic idea is still more often than not flawed and in the end, that's what's important. For you to think that it is forced emphasises your own inadequate vocabulary. You just can't concieve of anyone having a normal vocabulary that consists of some words with which you are unfamiliar. There has been no usage errors on my part, and whenever you or chuck try to pull me up on it, you have always failed...so I'm suprised you make that allegation again. Whenever you try to say that my ideas are flawed, your only arguments have been sleight of hand, wag the dog, prevaricate, target spelling or word usage. It is you who instigates the pages of semantic arguments by your pointless needling at my spelling or use of words that you had to look up. Mr. Harcourt: Did you not ever learn the following in your 6th grade English class? "I before E, except after C" Try to concieve (sic) it in your mind.
January 23, 201016 yr There's nothing more petty, pathetic, disgusting, and trivial than grammar/spelling/syntax nazis.....
January 23, 201016 yr The only thing worse is somebody that claims a vast vocabulary, yet doesn't even know how to spell the words correctly. I have never tried to correct a poster that spells incorrectly, unless that poster has a puffed up idea concerning their own brilliance. I have been hoping Mr. Harcourt would take the hint and, at the very least, use Google in an attempt to get it right. He simply doesn't get it or is too lazy to do the work necessary to correctly express himself. Apparantly most of you are so used to his sloppiness that you simply tolerate it. That is your choice. It is not mine.
January 23, 201016 yr I have to admit that it gets on my nerves when it is obvious that someone is using a thesaurus to write posts, but still uses the words incorrectly.
January 23, 201016 yr I like Americans because they do the stupidest things and then we can make fun of them on thaivisa.
January 23, 201016 yr I have to admit that it gets on my nerves when it is obvious that someone is using a thesaurus to write posts, but still uses the words incorrectly. The indupitallyness of your statement beyond question General.
January 23, 201016 yr Author I have to admit that it gets on my nerves when it is obvious that someone is using a thesaurus to write posts, but still uses the words incorrectly. Quote ONE word that I have used incorrectly. I can't remember the last time I used a thesaurus. Measure it in years. By the way all 3 of you are behaving, it is becoming obvious that the American school system is failing at English teaching. I am certain that there are many posters on this forum who have no problem whatsoever with the words I use, and use them themselves.....it is only a normal vocabulary after all.
January 23, 201016 yr Mr. Harcourt:Did you not ever learn the following in your 6th grade English class? "I before E, except after C" Try to concieve (sic) it in your mind. The rule does not always apply, take 'receive' for example. But I am not going to go down the route of picking up on spelling mistakes and/or typos, it really is quite childish.
January 23, 201016 yr I like Americans because they do the stupidest things and then we can make fun of them on thaivisa. You mean like posting pictures of themselves naked or with hookers young enough to be their great grand daughter?

Now you're being niggardly with the facts. Sorry, couldn't resist.

You mean like posting pictures of themselves naked or with hookers young enough to be their great grand daughter? Oh, didn't I mention I also like making myself the butt of jokes so everyone can get a laugh at my expense? And, those great grand daughters (of somebody) truly are a lot of fun. When you have a choice I don't know any sane man who would choose their grand mothers instead.
January 23, 201016 yr When are we going to get OTB back from these petulant schoolchildren? Fair call. I admit I am as much a part of it as the other children. But I feel I do not have to let them get away with cheap, irrational and silly jibes and let them think they are superior if left unanswered. It's easy. It's called 'self control'. You ought to try it. Cheap, irrational and silly jibes left unanswered demonstrate maturity not the opposite.
January 23, 201016 yr Ignore the jibes, drives 'em nuts. That's the beauty of forums, even if you ARE in the wrong you can just go away for a few days and by the time you come back all is forgotten. Most Conservatives have the attention span of a mango anyway. You need to be a lefty to really hold a grudge.

January 24, 201016 yr Apparently, there is something called "the gratefulness factor" that us eternal teenagers do not consider'.
January 24, 201016 yr Author Apparently, there is something called "the gratefulness factor" that us eternal teenagers do not consider'. Same factor found in fat women.
January 24, 201016 yr Apparently, there is something called "the gratefulness factor" that us eternal teenagers do not consider'. My experience has taught me it's more like a dried prune factor. Because I have a choice I'm just not willing to take the chance.
January 24, 201016 yr No wonder Western women on Thai Visa are not fond of you. That's the truth, but strangely enough, the mature, confident women in North America are my good friends... but then I don't pose a threat to them. In person I get along well with all women.

In person I get along well with all women. but strangely enough, the mature, confident women in North America are my good friends Are you suggesting that the TV ladies are not mature or confident? As for your N.A friends are they aware of your views regarding women in person, as we are on the net? And just how do you think you pose a threat, I personally think that you have been so roundly beaten in the field by these ladies that you are feeling a little insignificant. But that is just my opinion, of course

Yup, my North American friends all know my life style very well. I don't keep anything hidden and never hide behind a pseudonym. I'm not allowed to discuss other issues here.
January 25, 201016 yr Yup, my North American friends all know my life style very well. I don't keep anything hidden and never hide behind a pseudonym.I'm not allowed to discuss other issues here. 1) Using your real name on an Internet forum isn't a wise thing to do. 2) You're in your 70's, right? You've put in your time. Keep enjoying life and to hel_l with what anyone else thinks about. But some of us are younger and still need to be more discreet. 3) I'm sure North American women aren't too crazy about what men do down here in Thailand. Wear that like a badge of honor.

That is the great thing of being single, physically fit, financially independent, and my age. I don't have to worry about what others think. I just like to point out that there IS an alternative to being under the thumb of someone else. And, it doesn't take a whole lot of money. But, I DO have to accept the consequences of my own actions. Of course I DO get a giggle when others try to offend me and force me into a box of their own making. My own daughter and married sisters would find me a threat to their type of existence if they didn't know me better. But, they know where I'm coming from and tolerate my eccentricity.
January 27, 201016 yr Off topic, but I see no reason to have a go at Ian. I find his views on Thai life here interesting and frank. He tells it as he sees it. I don't necessarily want to copy his life style but I respect his right to live his life the way he wants to and not the way others want him too. The pics he posts are always worth looking at and while he is never controversial he usually stays more or less on topic - a rare attribute as this thread shows. Some people see a glass as half empty; some, half full. Ian sees a glass as completly full irrespective of the percentage. Hence he never debates a controversy, his spectacles being rose coloured in line with his view of life. caf
January 27, 201016 yr A nice, very interesting guy. The Western women on ThaiVisa need their cage rattled occasionally anyway.
January 27, 201016 yr he usually stays more or less on topic - a rare attribute as this thread shows.caf We all like Ian, but he is Canadian - not American - and you are off topic and complaining about other people who do the same. It seems that almost none of us has a problem with breaking the rules - as long as it is not someone else doing it.

My point was that many posters, you included I am afraid, tend to bitch other posters. You tried it on me, then Harcourt got a roasting, Laopo seemed to be your target at one time, now Ian. You are not the most logical thinker. There is no way I can comment about you and others going off topic without myself being off topic myself. A fact that has escaped you completely. As I said this seems to be an American trait and you seem to have it in spades - just look at the posts involving Harcourt, laopo, and Ian. There is no problem with Ian being Canadian. I have not read one post of his where he bitches. caf
