BMA opens first 'reading houses'

The first five "reading houses" in the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's latest project to boost reading among city folk were officially opened in Laksi district yesterday.

Governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra presided over the opening ceremony by leading a group of local readers to the houses. He presented trays of books to the locals' representative, Laksi district director Amornrat Krittiyanawat.

Sukhumband said 116 more reading houses would be built soon around Bangkok. He said the project would increase access to knowledge sources, in line with the government's policy of putting reading on the national agenda.

Interesting project. Would like to know more. How will they be supervised - like a library? Anyone live out Laksi way can tell us more?

I wonder where the next ones will be. Couldn't find anything in the BMA website.

Makes me think of the Christian Science reading rooms in the West. I wonder what sort of reading matter they will have.

Where is Laksi ?

Where are those 'reading places' in Laksi ?
