January 27, 201016 yr We'll be on a cruise arriving in Bangkok (Klong Toey) on Tuesday February 23 at 2:00PM. We'll need a driver from 2:30PM that day until 11:PM. On Wednesday we need the driver from 7:00 AM to 1:00PM. It's our first time in Bangkok(my wife and I) and we are trying to see a maximum of sites. How much should we pay? Do you have a company your recommend? Thank you for your help.
January 27, 201016 yr I think you would see more if you used the sky train , it would be quicker and easier due to the traffic.
January 27, 201016 yr if you are heading out to Ayutthaya {sorry about the spelling} or places outside of bkk then a driver is all good. I have in the past paid around 1500 baht per day, for a van + driver, from 7am to 5pm, and then if he has done a good job and driven well, ill tip him based on performance / how late it gets like one day we were out until midnight so i paid him another full day, so thats the van, plus I pay for gas, I haven't hired a car with a driver before, but I wouldnt expect to pay more than that. but thats just my opinion, I generally self drive in thailand, although not in BKK city if i can avoid it, public transport is the way to go due to traffic.
January 28, 201016 yr I think it could be a good idea to rent car and driver to see the sights in Bangkok in one day. That way you get dropped off in front of say, the Grand Palace or something and when you are done, you just call him to come pick you up. Skytrain and MRT do not go near many tourist spots. Note, I use car and driver daily in Bangkok, it is the way to go. Most major car rental companies, such as Budget, offer chauffeur services. TH
