My advice would be 1) get lessons with a reputable pro and 2) find a par-3 or short nine hole loop to play.

Learn from the hole backwards, not the tee forwards. Don't rush onto a 7,000 yard course...you'll simply not enjoy it.

Go for lessons, preferably with a pro who videos your swing, and plays it back on a special program that allows him to show your stance in relation to a pro swing.

It meant for some big changes for me, but it really helped, a lot!

You can rent at golf courses but it's hit or miss at too their quality. Better to get your own and get used to them. As a beginner so to speak start off with a mid range set (no need for pro models) that have a decent shaft and fit you properly.

Absolutely! Take lessons before starting to play. A good golf swing has to be taught, stance, grip etc. If you try to develop a swing by yourself you will make mistakes which you'll never get rid of.

If I was starting over again, lessons would be my number 1 priority before even setting foot on a golf course.
