When I started, about a year ago, the Pattaya Sportsclub recommended an old geezer in Pattaya Driving Range (3rd road, next to the sportsclub). Don't remember his name but he was lazy, difficult to get hold of, and useless. I felt I'd wasted my money.

I recommend you go to another driving range. There's a good one about 4km out on Soi Siam Countryclub. They have an offer of 20 boxes of balls for 400 baht (20bt/box) cheapest in town AFAIK and you don't need any membership of anything to get this price.

All driving ranges have a golf pro. Just ask for him when you are there. I recommend you only pay for the lesson you need, when you need it. Just start with one to show you the basic grip and swing to get you started. Often there will be others at the range who will give you hints as you plod along.

You can rent a club at the driving ranges, or buy a cheap 2nd hand iron in one of the golf shops on 3rd road. The 7-iron is considered the best to start with. Don't buy a full set before you've got a little more experience under your belt, talk to people you meet at the driving ranges, get different opinions.

If you're a smoker and drinker you could also go to one of the many bars in Pattaya who arrange golfing, I'm sure they can help as well.

This is good advice if your goal is to "plod along." Hints from people at a driving range will often be contradictory and just plain wrong. If you want to improve and actually get good at the game, then working with the same pro for a series of lessons is the best bet. The trick, of course, is finding that pro. Good luck!

I suppose i should have said within Bangkok!

There's a driving range down the end of Sukhumvit Soi 18... and another opposite Sukhumvit Soi 65.

Try Tee Off driving range on Soi 42/1 and Sukhumvit. Ball prices during the weekday daytime hours are great (4 trays for 100 :o. Ask for Pro Ha (as in #5). He speaks excellent English and is quite patient with new golfers. Good Luck
