Cheapest Ticket To Us?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know of a good travel agent or website offering cheap BKK-LA or BKK-SEA tickets roundtrip?

The best I can find on the web is US$1000 on China Airlines via Expedia.com. Don't they crash a lot?

Seems like there must be a better deal out there as I have bought tickets in the US for $700 to $750 many times in the past.

I would be going in August and returning in early October.

Thanks!

I'm also looking for a BKK to Seattle round trip in December....Checked internet first but found the best deal directly on China Air website.....$615 roundtrip in December '05...You might want to check it out. I've flown China Air before with no problem.............good luck.

Asiana often has some good rates. In the past I traveled alot and I could usually find good deals but I kept jumping from one airline to another....it seems that the cheapest rates keep moving around but Asiana has been consistently a good deal for quite awhile. If/when I fly to USA again I'll check out all the internet sites to get an idea as to who is cheap and then I'll go to a travel/booking agent and see what they have to offer. I usually go in and ask them for the best rate for a flight on blah blah blah day to blah blah blah and they'll suggest some carrier. I ask for the price and if there is an indication on the internet that another carrier is competitive with the price they quote I'll ask them to check out flight blah blah blah for carrier thus and so and often the prices seem to get better.

I stopped using internet booking places like Expedia etc.. I have found it's a lot cheaper to go through the airlines web sites. NWA flys direct to Seattle. I know some people will say they're rather expensive but I get great deals with them by cutting out the middle man.

Check out EVA ... great Airline... good service.... and I have always gotten

a fair fare from their website.

China Airlines via Expedia.com. Don't they crash a lot?

their safety record is not good. to cut down on maintenance costs the chinese

reproduce parts such as landing gear and engine parts. there is a reason

why we xray metal parts! :o

CAL's (Taiwan) dud rep stems from bad CRM.

Ex mil pilots who flew 747s as though they were still in a mil jet.

Face was another major problem,

1st officers were too scared to correct the captain if he/she saw something amiss.

KAL had the same problem until the insurance co's demanded that the drivers were retrained to western CRM standards.

Both airlines have a fair rep now but their history will dog them forever.

The cheap chinese spares idea put fwd, is utter rubbish.

EVA have an excellent reputation and safety record.

Yes, I do.

There is no mention of dodgey parts in your link. :D

Talk to the 2 ex drivers on this forum for info or check out pprune.com

Have fun. :o

I watched a tv documentary on airline safety and they specifically mentioned

china air doing this. In addition to their dismal safety record they are accused

of counterfeit spare parts.

from the taipeitimes.com website.

Although very stringent controls exist for the supply of spare aircraft parts, there have been a number of incidents of aeroplane crashes caused by fake components. ... The Far East is commonly pinpointed by the US aviation industry as the problem area," according to a report published by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

"We are looking at parts that are very critical to flight safety -- hydraulic fittings, brakes, flaps, cockpit instruments and landing gear," MSNBC quoted aviation journalist Tim Van Beveren as saying.

Any intl airline rumoured to be using dud spares would be refused entry to western airports.

The stuff you are now quoting is by journos, not the NTSB, CAA, CASA or similar org.

Look what happened to Phuket Air !!!!!

Am still waiting for an authorative source from you. Not a newspaper. :o

Pprune is considered an authorative source if they quote a safety report.

I don't think an air carrier would be refused entry based on rumors alone.

You are not going to find a price lower than a travel agent here in Thailand IMHO so that should be your playing field. Any copy of the Bangkok Post will have a dozen or so with price that you can use as a guide for local CM shopping if you want to buy local.

Agree EVA web site has a good price buy my experience is that local agent beats it by a substantial amount.

See Phuket Air's recent history!

So I guess what most of us are saying is that the cheapest isn't always the best deal. :o

I would fly CAL & KAL now that the ex-military pilots have gone. :o
