Sorry for being extremely noob-ish but does this still hold true?

OR, have things changed since 3 years ago and will I be expected to pay either an arriving or departure tax? Thanks.

*Edit, apparently I'm not allowed to post urls yet, anyway, I was trying to post a link to a posting made on this page from 2007.

Passenger Handling Charge (departure tax) has been included in your ticket price pretty much since the new airport opened.

No payment required on arrival or departure. :)

HOWEVER.... there is still a departure tax payment office inside the Thai Airways ticket office on the departures level. So, there may still be the odd occasion when a ticket may not have the tax included at point of sale and if you have one of those tickets, now you know where to go!

I believe (no personal experience) that if a transit passenger leaves the transit area (for example if they have a long wait and decide to nip into town) that the departure tax becomes payable :)

That's my understanding as well. Something about a different boarding pass, or some indication on a boarding pass, if a passenger is a transit passenger. If a transit passenger does leave the transit area, and re-enters via the departure immigrations hall, their boarding pass somehow flags them to the staff checking said boarding passes and they are then directed to the area to pay the departure tax.

Maybe that's why you have to show a boarding pass to enter the departure immigrations hall?
