hello, Is there a "best" time of year to get a english teaching job in Thailand? I've read April would be the most opportune time (before the may semester starts). I don't think I will be able to make it there in time and was thinking about coming in late September early October (before the start of the November semester). Would this be a good time to job search? Appreciate the help/ advice. thanks

You could start looking before and see what is available, some schools will be on the look out for teacher now for November.

Jobs are always available, depend on which degree you hold.

I think April is actually a bad time to look, because of Songkran and the fact that most schools are closed for summer break. The better managed schools secure their new hires in March, and often you can get hired in May as schools reopen and realize they have vacancies for the new term.

Michael-

International schools tend o be pro-active in hiring and plan ahead. Government schools often put it off to the last second. There are ALWAYS jobs available but if you plan in advance you have a better chance of being able to work closer to wherever you decide to call "home" in Thailand.

I have found that most “agencies” if ran by Thai if you want to go that route when trying to answer your question. Agencies tend to look for “workers / teachers” to take on in order to fill their quotes, hire at the very, very, very last minute. But, most tend to do their hiring a week or two before. Some might if you are lucky. Place you into a school at the beginning of the month, instead of the middle part.

So, set your sites right after Songkran to the middle of May or in October.

Now is a great time to be searching. In little less than a month the summer break begins. Now is the time schools start finding out (or deciding) who is returning and who isn't.
