Twitter.....what Is It?

Featured Replies

So, my tax guy who is very friendly invited me to be on Twitter. I signed up and can't figure out what the site is. What is it for? Just seems like instant messaging for the masses and more than anything a waste of time. Do any of you guys 'tweet'? What about? What do you follow? Also, how the hel_l do you use the site?

Cheers,

Thaibebop

I don't tweet. I think you got it when you said, "....instant messaging for the masses and more than anything a waste of time...."

If you use it correctly it can be almost like having a personal assistant following you around to remind you of stuff. You just need to be picky on who/what you follow. Some people let you know when something really important or interesting is about to happen, others let you know they just bought a pack of gum. It's like anything on the internet, it can be useful, but is often squandered.

I am starting to figure that out. I have found all the news companies offering their tweets. Instant news is good, right? I just got some young woman requesting to follow my tweets, I have decided to protect them from public view for the time being, which leaves me thinking why? I have not said or done anything yet to have anyone want to follow anything I say. This makes me think of scams. So, are their tweet scams? I am sure there are, I just can't think of any cases in the news.

As I said, I am not a twit(erer), so I am not sure of this, but instant news is good if you get "breaking news flash!!!" only, but I suspect that you'll find that if you subscribe to news, you will be getting 20 or 30 texts a day of just the standard news.

For me, that would just ve a nuisance.

I am sure you are right. I am not connecting this thing to my phone as of yet. I think I will see what really shows up first.

Ohh, so its like TV then? :)

Never used it.

It might be useful for some business or following the news etc, but from what I have heard it is mostly used by people who think that anybody actually gives a flying one that they have just washed their hair or whatever.

Yeah, I am getting a lot of news and stuff like that, but I have also come across people annoucing where they are eating. I just don't get it. Don't think I'll be using it much. I have not yet sinced to my phone and I am not going to either.

IMO it is an exercise in narcissism.

To think that your thoughts and experience are so important that you need to announce it to the world and that people are interested in hearing them.

That's more like a blog. People have to actually subscribe to your tweets to see them. If nobody does, you're just announcing it to yourself.

True, very correct.....which reinforces my opinion that it is an exercise in Narcissism.

But as a business PR, Promo or Marketing tool, it is great. Especially if you are in a business where changes occurs quickly.

I can tell you exactly what Twitter is.

It is the bit of skin on a lady between the <deleted> and the shitter. :)

I don't know what's worse, those who twitter or those who follow the twitters.

It must be a fantastic stalking tool.

Twitter you ask? It's something the birdies do outside my window. I just coo back at them. It's too hot to shut my window. :)

Twit - Wikipedia,

A twit is a common British slang term, with roughly the same meaning as idiot.

I totally agree, speshully after venturing into Twtter.

I'm on Facebook or is that old fashioned now? Never look at it. Being a twatter would take time out of the rest of my boring life. And I may be groomed by an older man.

I think I'm less than a year older than you.......although technically it does, that shouldn't count as "older man" in the context of grooming.
