They changed Photo bucket this a link to the photos I took today barges on the sand bar at Chaing Kkan and the 20 klms south of there.

I'll try to get the photos uploaded to the site, to make it easier I have never seen it this low in the past eight years.

Those are the barges in the center of the river. people weer just walking around the sand bar I guess waiting for the water level to raise

Disaster time..Some people need to get their head out of their arsh.

I blame the Chinese for Damming the Water up Stream :) , we all know how dry it can get at this time of the year and we won't see regular rain until May/June

The odd thing was we saw people that appeared to be panning for gold, couldn't stop and get a photo. Could have been something else. They have actually found a lost temple in the river off of Nong Khai as I recall they said it fell from the river bank 160 years ago.

We did see heavy equipment loading sand into trucks on the Lao side, last I heard that was for a large project China was working on in Lao.

Whatever it ain't good :)

Bloody Chinese... :):D:D

I walked across to Savanakhet today for some beer Laos dark.

Well worth the stroll. Worked up a good thirst too :).

What is the water level like in Mekong near Nong Khai?

Thanks :)

I've posted some photos of the Mekong at Chiang Kong that I took last week after a similar thread in the Chiang Rai forum if anyone's interested.

But you can not walk to Laos over the river. Can you swim ? But that's illegal......

Better take the bridge.

If the water keeps on dropping you may be able to walk across to Laos!

Probably could wade across at some point.

Really really low .. dam_n Communists .. No wait, they are Capitalists trying to drive their economy now .. dam_n .. dam_n ..
