Motorists advised to avoid roads near red-shirt rally site

BANGKOK: -- Pol Maj Gen Phanu Kerdlarpphol, deputy commissioner of the bureau, said motorists should avoid Uthong Nai Road and Rajdamnoen Road as well as other roads that intersect with Si Ayutthaya and Phitsanulok from Government House to Wang Daeng Intersection.

He said the motorists should also avoid using Rama VIII Bridge, Pin Klao Bridge and Krungthon Bridge because of the closure of six roads - Rajdamnoen Klang, Rajdamnoen Nok, Mahchai, Nakhon Sawan, Larn Luang, Uthong Nai and Phitsanulok.

Where is exactly the 11th Military Infantry?

Paholyothin, Bangken, yes but Kaset? Rachada? Laksi?

Exact address is welcome.

No, I do not intend to go but to avoid the area.

For those of you not aware of its location it is in the northern corridor of Bangkok on PHAHOLYOTHIN ROAD, north of Kaset-Nawamin intersection (Kaset University) and south of the big roundabout at the 5th Constitution Monument (Phaholyothin/Ramintra/Chaengwattana intersection). It's close to Phaholyothin Soi 49 (outbound) and Phaholyothin Soi 46 (inbound). It's roughly south-east of the older airport at Don Muang.

If all the reds converge there, the roads to avoid will probably be the eastern section of Chaengwattana, western section of RamIntra and Phaholyothin Road from Sai Mai all the way down to Kaset-Nawamin (Phaholyothin/Nawamin/Ngamwongwan intersection).

Please check the picture.

I tried to locate the 11 infantry thanks to your information.

Am I right or not?

If not, please provide a map.

It's about 500 metres NE of the canal at the top of your image.

There are quite a lot of unnumbered sois between Soi 46 and Soi 46/1 and also Soi 49 and Soi 49/1 which is why it's hard to give a precise location.

It makes sense: on the map there is a LARGE "gray" area + the mention: Army transportation Engineering School.

From this school to Rama Intra.

Yes, the area of the army base is quite large. Not sure how the intend to surround it as it stretches back quite far with no roads to the back of it. Quite easy to fly Abhisit and other important people out there ... if indeed they haven't left already!

On TNN24 one reporter just said that the section of Phaholyothin Road from Kaset-Nawamin to Ram Intra/Chaengwattana (roundabout) likely to be closed later as and when the red shirts arrive.

Going out to have a look on Phaholyothin Road in about 5 mins.

Motorists advised to avoid Victory Monument, Phetchaburi, Phaholoyotihn

BANGKOK: -- The Metropolitan Police Bureau Monday advised motorists to avoid the Phechaburi Road, Victory Monument and the Phaholyothin Road as protests were heading to the 11th Infantry Regiment in Bang Khen to defy the Army.

Pol Maj Gen Phanu Kerdlarppol, deputy metropolitan police chief, said the red-shirt protesters were moving the Pan Fah Bridge to Bang Khen, using Phetchaburi Road, passing through the Victory Monument and Phaholyothin Road, and could cause traffic snarls on the road.

He said traffic congestions could spill to Ramkhamhaeng and Lard Prao roads.
