I am desperately seeking a solution for a friend. US Citizen, 25, recently graduated with a masters degree. Offered a job in Thailand and happily accepted. Unfortunately he was ordered to wait until in the country to get his visa. I am seeking any solution available to help him expedite the process of getting his visa and work permit. He is basically without internet access most of the time and is unable to do much research or communicate. Any help is appreicated.

Did he arrive on a tourist visa or just a 30 day entry stamp? If the latter he needs to get employment information and apply for a non immigrant type B visa in a country nearby (Penang, Malaysia is best choice). If he has a tourist visa (60 day entry) he may be able to convert this at Immigration to a non immigrant visa that allows work per this procedure:

The applicant's documents are required to be certified by himself/herself on every page.

Documents of the cmpany must be certified by the authorized director(s) with the company seal (if any) affixed on every page.

Your friend can go to almost any internet cafe, get a coffee etc, log on and research to his hearts content.
