People Who Think That They Are Intelligent Because Of Political Dogma Or Eating Habits

Featured Replies

You remind me of the anti-establishment, non-conformist hippies of the old days. To be a non-conformist you had to drop out of society and then dress alike, look alike, talk alike, smell alike, listen to the same music, smoke someone else's weed - BUT it's the OTHER people who can't think for themselves. :)

Koheesi brought up something interesting on another thread. Thai Visa is full of posts by people claiming that anyone who disagrees with their political beliefs or tastes in food and alcoholic beverages is "stupid" or a "sheep", but they are just as biased and conformist as everyone else and maybe a lot less sensible.

They believe every wacky conspiracy theory - even though these theories almost always contradict each other - and they refuse to eat in Western fast food places because they are not overly healthy or because they have decided that they are about "repetition and conformity", but they have no problem with deep fried fish and chips or greasy Pad Thai as long as they are cheap and not from a restaurant chain.

When we were 15 years old many of us thought that we were more "enlightened" than the old folks because we smoked pot, listened to Dylan and were hippies, but most of us outgrew that silly delusion as soon we had to go to work for a living.

When are these people going to grow up?

Whence I was a younger man and whilst back home in Blighty, there was a particular night club that I chose as a drinking hole. I chose it because of reasonable prices, decent music, shagadelic young women, next to to a great curry house and most of all it was open late.

The only thing was that this club was rather grungy, which didn't really bother me, although I did stand out a bit because I was quite smartly dressed whilst just about everybody else was dressed all in black and caked in make-up. For whatever reason, occasionally somebody would take exception and feel the need to tell me that I had some kind of attitude problem for being "fashionable" and, well, conformist.

Of course, just by glancing up it was clear to see that in that particular club I was not going with the fashion and was certainly not conformist whereas all the others acted and dressed almost identically. Much to my amusement, this was often lost on them.

I suspect its more self awareness than "growing up" UG. Everyone likes to think they are unique but fact is, we all conform to some standard in some way or another. Either as moonrakers goths, punks, hippies, tie wearing business suit, etc etc etc. The conformity is nothing unusual, its the lack of self awareness from those who conform but don't seem to grasp that they are. Perhaps self awareness is "growing up" but if so, then I think there are many people out there who never will.

As the saying goes... When I grow old I'll wear purple... because I no longer give a shit what others think.

I'm fast approaching that point. :)

I've never bothered trying to fit in. I've always been a loner and happy not having to conform... even though I did to some extent. I've never smoked, but don't mind if others do. It's THEIR BUSINESS if they want to ruin their health. I drink a little, but never to excess. I never took drugs even though I grew some marijuana plants for my friends useage. I try not to take ANY drugs of any sort, even prescription drugs, unless I absolutely have to for an infection. That is because all foreign chemicals ingested into the body will have side effects. I feel anything anyone wants to do to themselves is okay by me unless it impacts negatively on someone else. And, I really don't mind making a fool of myself in public just to get a laugh. What other's think is their problem... not mine.

I see everything in life in shades of grey... from almost white to almost black.

GREAT video. Much recommended and exactly what I mean! :)

I was cooking Thai food for stoner parties back in the UK.

I spent a month in preparation to come to Thailand, by only eating the hottest Indian curries.

I do feel sorry for those who don't eat Thai food, like my departed friend down the road... through and through Englishman...

awful diet of cow pat, SPAM, sausages and generally every saturated fat know to block your tubes.

I'm working on a nutrition website at the moment, shocking some of my findings... it's true what they say about Maccy D's... Some items are highly toxic.

Recommend staying away from any dressings at Mac D's and NEVER NEVER eat the fruity pie things. Off the scale with trans fats.

I eat only Thai, because I'm skint, and live half an hour from the nearest 'chain'... but I have yet to graduate to the green mush my wife devours. Must be so healthy.. It's just sooo stinky!

My research so far has found chillies to be loaded with vitamins, a real superfood.

I can't find the George Carlin sketch on Wall Mart but found this instead

Found it. thank goodness for youtube playlists!!

Carlin was great...Always liked his stuff..

True though that folks who cannot control what goes in their mouth probably have no control of

what comes out :D

Thanks for those, whiterussian. I was always a George Carlin fan.

It seems we have a similar interest in cooking and good nutricious food. The owner of the Thai cafe where I get my Kow Padt is a friend and she self tailors my meal just for me. I pay her 40 baht and the Thais pay 30 baht, but my portion is much bigger, and with less fat, sugar or oils.

I eat a lot of fish products in BC, of which most I catch myself. I agree on the chilies being good for you. My local market has a far bigger variety than I find in Thailand. I make a huge veggie stir fry each week and use it for a variety of dishes for the remainder of the week.

The other day, this is what I had with friends: cold smoked tuna, fresh halibut, fresh crab and fresh prawns.

And this stir fry is what I put inside my Kai ut sai...

I don't mind Thai food - quite enjoy some of it; can't eat other of it. I do, however, eat mainly western food while in LOS and most of it I cook myself, just the same as I do in Oz. I note that Vlad says that "I eat only Thai, because I'm skint, and live half an hour from the nearest 'chain'". I go to the supermarket (Carrefour) once a week for my main shop (meat and veg, etc) and often on odd days between. I cook most of my own meals not because I'm a Cheap Charlie but because I enjoy my own cooking, the portions are always spot on in quantity and cooked exactly to my liking and, most importantly, I don't have to sit in a restaurant twiddling my thumbs while waiting anything between ten and thirty minutes for my meal to arrive. Sure, I do still eat at restaurants occasionally and eat B40 noodle soup (food trolley) like it's going out of fashion (love it), but I always enjoy my own meals the most. (Yes, I do prepare the occasional Thai meal as well.) Fast (farang) food? Only the rare 1am pizza craving.

we Klingons do not sport big brains ND. we compensate that lack by having big balls. besides, some of us are multilingual but not native english speakers. therefore we might sometimes miss the punchline of wisecrack expressions from self-appointed smartasses.

:)

How about some of these OP?

How did he get so fat then !

Because he has obviously eaten more than his fair share of sugar.

Al Gore is full of sh1t, that is why he is so fat.

Dogma is nothing but programming. A political hack and a computer can both be programmed but neither are actually intelligent.
