Watched the second debate yesterday...that Clegg chap comes across as very reasonable....He may just be the next PM.

NZ'z "tory" govt wants to introduce (or has introduced?) a "work for the dole" scheme.

The only people that don't like it are the career unemployed....and who cares what they like or don't like? Lazy bludgers.

People forget that the dole is supposed to help you out if you're unavoidably out of work. It is there as a safety net.....not for a lifestyle.

My personal preference for dealing with the present crop of MPs would be to bring back the stocks and flogging round the fleet.

Shadow PM Tony Abbott wants to do the same in Oz, if he gets into power. Good idea, I believe - but not his idea, of course. It seems that every second idea a poli has in Oz is borrowed from UK or US - years ago, we even borrowed Thatcherism. But head for the bunkers when an Ozzie politician has an 'original' idea (eg free installation of fire hazzards insulation in your roof).

I think you would lean further towards the eugenics angle if you believed that most human behaviour is either directly or indirectly associated with genes.

When I was starting work in the UK the dole was different - you had to go for an interview at the labour exchange, they would give you a chitty to have a job interview at such-and-such a company, in line with your talents.

If that didn't work out you had a second chitty for a second interview.

Drawing dole all this time.

If that didn't work either, you got a third chance as a council dustman, or equivalent. If that wasn't suitable the dole stopped.

The problem these days is finding the jobs for these people - they're no good at working for their living. N one wants to employ them.
