It Was A Good Idea At The Time....

Has anyone here even thought about the probably horrificly painful death of the critters? As they are stuck to a piece of wood sqeeking away?

I have. And i know that i spelt horrifacly badly.

Growing up we always had cats. The Siamese ones used to put up an awful ruckus when they spotted a rat in the woodpile that we kept stacked up next to the house for the fireplace. They would sit in their haunches and chirp. It was a funny sound for cats to make. You could tell it was something unusual because they were so upset.

I didn’t want to let the Siamese outside, they were too expensive so I started feeding a local tom cat. Apparently the tom felt indebted to me for the food and started bringing me a rat every morning. The rat was half dead and the tom played with him so I could see the that he was doing his job. After he played with the half dead bleeding squeaking rat for a couple of minutes he would dispatch him with a bite to a vital organ and then grin at me. You know how cats grin.

After ten or so rats I stopped feeding the tom. I couldn’t take the sight of the dying rats every morning on my way to work. Eventually the cat left.

The tom was probably breeding the rats in some hideaway and did this to all the people who fed him.

Having thought about this problem for some time, I think I finally have the answer.

Michael Jackson.

Just play " Ben " in the shop, place a box of tissues in the center of the room and hide behind the door with a spade.......... Job done.

Michael Jackson - or any spade?

That was so funny you said it twice :)

Yes. George, put a spell checker on the site...

There is a spell checker.

Unfortunately it does not run concurrently whilst typing.

If you are using IE, click on tools and look for "IE spell".

Dunno if Firebricks has a spell check, but there is one for IE users .

Firefox has a spell checker, has a variety of dictionaries available including several for English. The kiwi one only has 17 words but that usually is sufficient for all but the most erudite South Sea Pom.

And fifteen of those are different ways of addressing a sheep.

So Mark, as far as i can comprehend. You kept the Siamese cats inside chirping, because they were pedigrees? While the male tom feral killed all the mice? Siamese cats don't chirp they talk, and a lot. Make alot of noise.

You should have let them out, it is in their nature to kill rodents. And they may have enjoyed skipping around in the nature. Enjoying the grass and sun and attacking the feral tom who was probably showing off the mice and rats on the front lawn!!!

I love cats (as most of you know) but to keep them inside against their will is wrong. They need to go out. And hunt.

My non pedigree moggie also chirps, but because he is happy to come home after a night out on the tiles.

Hopefully without a rodent - then i do a sort of dance and have to throw it out. After 30 years of numerous cats i cannot get over the dead animals they bring in.

And i still do a hissy fit.

Catlover as always!!!!

It was a 4000 square foot home and one room lined the back of the house and was filled with plants of all different varieties. The cats were lilac frost point Siamese. I realize the cats would have been happier outside. We had enough land. There were a lot of pheasants that the cats would have loved.

I am sure you realize the average life span of an outdoors cat is 3 to 5 years.

My Siamese all lived over 20 years the oldest dieing at 25. 6 months of the year was snow. I let them go out in the snow. That was funny. They stayed a couple of minutes and then came running back inside.

I understand the talking thing but the chirping noise was reserved for when they saw or sensed a predator. Also a spastic movement would accompany this sound.

If the rats in your neighbourhood were predatory to cats, I don't blame you for keeping the cats inside. But then, I suppose large rats suited your large home and land.

The rats around my place are prey to cats. I suppose that's because my home is only modest.

A 25.5 year old cat! Must have been some sort of record at the time.

It was a country home. When it was built there were no other streets beyond ours only forest.

It was actually the smallest home on the street. My logic being, buy the cheapest home in an area because the value of the larger homes will raise the value of the smaller homes.

We had a big fireplace and the only rats I saw hung out in our woodpile.

The largest rats I have ever seen were at the bottom of elevator shafts and dumb waiters in hotels and restaurants. They were larger than small cats.

The cats had a pampered life and ate mostly fresh cooked calves liver and fish.

They had their own rest room designated as the cat’s bathroom where their litter boxes were cleaned daily.

The Siamese lived quite a bit longer than our domestic cats for reasons I don’t know because they had the same diet and lifestyle.

They also ate plants when it suited them. Violets if they were angry.

They were de clawed so letting them outside was out of the question.

Wots orl thus bleedan nonsenze bout spellin? :)

Thanks SBK.......you said it........ Words fail me.

(I was not responding to your post, ND.)

I see your problem now, Marky; You're insensitive to sarcasm or cynicism, you have no empathy with people that enjoy banter, and just as the passive aggressive is unaware of his/her inner anger (as you say), you are unaware of you're own baggage that you carry.

Physician, heal thyself.

After perusing some diatribes attributed to Mark.

I can only agree here with Harky.

Diatribes.............. Extremely thin Africans ?

I too have scoured his posts, not one mention of the dark continent most of it was about cats !

Posted to calm down anyone with the middle name Felix and give you a Lupine to hate ( far, far better fur ).

I thought declawing cats was against the law.

My cat goes out and he is 11. He still has about 7 lives left.

I always thought de clawing cats was a barbaric practice. It was the wife’s idea. She said the furniture was more important than my **** cats. I had the cats before we were married.

Actually the cats and the wife never really got along.

Eventually I gave the cats to my parents and they all lived happily ever after.

I would be happy to write a couple of diatribes but I don’t know where the ones referred to are.
