From Issan Khorat,don't wish to travel back to bangkok

and fly,but aware you can get visa stamped on arrival

this way.

You can also get a visa at Nong Khai border and probably at Mukdahun. Probably train to Nong Khai would be best trip and not expensive.

From Korat, follow the hiway north to the end - NongKhai, or take the train north. To to the bridge accross the Mekong, check out of Thailand with imm. people at the bridge, pick up the bus accross the bridge (10 - 20 baht), upon arrival at the Lao side terminal, get a Lao visa-on-arrival about 1,500 baht last time I did it.

You can also get a visa at Nong Khai border and probably at Mukdahun.
