Do you actually need to jailbreak the iPad 3G to use it here? I thought it would work anywhere out of the box (providing you have a Stanley knife).

Not illegal, but voids the warranty. :)

Does not void the warranty. All you need to do is restore the UNJAILBROKEN software in itunes and its AS out of the box condition. I have jailbroken iphones in the past and had the screens repaired under apple warranty.

Yep, was able to jailbreak today, and it took about 15 seconds. I had to restore via itunes as the camera roll was not on the phone. After restoring from a real backup, Cydia was still there.

Sorry, I am talking about the Iphone, not Ipad.

Actually it DOES void the warranty. The fact you can restore it to stock firmware means you can hide it but it in fact most certainly does void the warranty. If anything went wrong during a restore maybe you could have a problem. But I know what you are saying I am just being pedantic.
