Elephants camp outside Chiang Mai city hall, Govt response needed

CHIANG MAI (NNT) -- Twelve elephants from the Maetaman Elephant Camp in Chiang Mai are still camping out in Chiang Mai’s city hall to pressure the government to assist in easing the problematic tourism sector following the affects from the political row.

For three consecutive days, the twelve elephants with its elephant mahouts gathered for the Thai national anthem, while performing various exercises and performances to the public visiting the city hall. The elephant performances are held twice a day and the elephants and their mahouts will stay put until they receive a response from the government.

Meanwhile, the public has shown interest in the elephant performances at city hall, donating food and money. The Maetaman Elephant Camp director revealed that currently the elephant camp business in Thailand is at a standstill during the political row, which provides an opportunity for neighboring countries to develop their elephant camps to match Thailand's standards.

Is elephant shyt the same as bull shyt? :)

No, it is bigger.

And saying that they are afraid that neighbouring countries will adapt their elephant camps to Thai standard is a laugh. Anyone been to Elephant Village near Surin and seen the "standard" there? Chained animals, no food or water. Thai standard, right. There are exceptions, like elephantnaturefoundation.org outside Chaing Mai but not many.

No. We can't let this happen. No one will come to Thailand if we don't have the BEST elephants!

I'll disagree with you, I'm in Surin been to the elephant village many times. The elephants have all the food an water that they need and a stream for bathing. Yes they are chained just like the elephants in Mae Rim for safety. You need to get your facts straight before you go off.
