Hepatitis patients in Chiang Mai under close watch

CHIANG MAI: -- More than 10 people infected with Hepatitis A in Thailand's northern province of Chiang Mai are under close medical supervision to prevent a major outbreak, according to a senior provincial health official.

The latest reported case is in Chiang Dao district, the senior provincial medical official, Dr. Surasingha Visarutarat, told TNA on Saturday.

Most of the patients are believed to have contracted the virus from

contaminated food and drinks while visiting the nearby province of Chiang Rai.

They are being treated in hospitals in Chiang Mai.

Some patients have been released from the hospitals to recuperate at home.

But they are all still being closely monitored by medical officials who visit them regularly.

They also advise the patients on how to prevent the virus from spreading.
