Tesco Lotus Express were supposed to close at 5PM; walked in at 15 past and loaded up on necessities.

Curfew very hard to regulate citywide- but I have to say that having M'oc Mol on Huay Kaew Road shut down at 9PM 3 nights running has been a most pleasant experience.

Not listening to that no-talent Thai female crooner belting out her passé tripe has improved my mood tremendously.

Curfew - Day 3 - After Midnight.

Bars:

-All but 2 bars in Loi Kroh boxing area are closed. The two that are open have about 10 customers each.

-One bar in Reggae area is open. Doing decent business. Would estimate 20+ customers inside.

-All the bars on Moon Muang are closed.

-Few bars around Loi Kroh are open, but very quiet.

Overall, its extremely quiet. Quieter than last night. Depressingly so.

Police/ Checkpoints:

-Drove thru the checkpoint on Sridonchai Rd. Nobody being stopped. The police are all sitting close to the building and away from the checkpoint. Looks like they are just passing the time.

-Drove past the checkpoint on Chang Klan. Same as above. Nobody being stopped. Police have brought out chairs and are sitting in front of the small police station having a chat.

-Drove thru the checkpoint at Thapae Gate. Appears to have been abandoned. Not even setup. All the checkpoint supplied are sitting on the traffic island, but no police and no checkpoint setup.

Other:

-Seems like more non-nightlife places are closed. More 7-11's are closed than yesterday. All the Mikes burger shops were shutting down. Less noodle carts out, etc.

-Seems like tourist numbers (at least out in public) are also down from yesterday night.

-Noticed that most of the tuk-tuk drivers standing around tonight, not making any money, have removed the Red flags, ribbons, and Thaksin pictures. Wonder if they have finally put 2 and 2 together.

-Hotels and guesthouses look to be less busy than usual as well. With a not so strong high-season and now this redshirt chaos, its going to be interesting to see how many redshirts/ redshirt supporters/ redshirt sympathizers are going to be forced to sell their bars and guesthouse later on this summer.

Overall, not much happening. Everyone seems to be in a quiet and somber mood. It was pretty depressing and I decided to call it a night. Hopefully the curfew will not be extended. Hoping this is my last post on the subject and that this thread can die a horrible death tomorrow :)

You mean that men with machine guns are in town, and its much easier to just leave the red flags back at home for the next 48 hours?

I hope you are right though, both PAD and UDD need to lose the militant wings pdq.

In a way this curfew is hurting the reds up here, so maybe they will have just a small taste of what the BK people get every few years from one side or another.

Do hope it ends soon, its making my red wife fuming mad. She is losing trade - which means she gets closer to my wallet :)

I know she gets mad, because she waves her foot at the TV.

An eye witness is telling me that police raided Warorot Hotel today. They searched room by room looking for someone or something. Can anyone confirm and/ or provide additional details?

This information is coming from a single secondhand source, so of course should be taken with a grain of salt. Hoping someone can either corroborate or dispel.

I saw it on the TV news while waiting for wild boar curry. Pictures of police checking out the Grand Warorot Hotel, and not finding much other than the radio station setup.

I was out until a bit past midnight, Mike's at the LK Boxing Ring was open at that time, and a few bars inside, and the one on the outside corner.

I decided to avoid the checkpoints, just in case, which was incredibly easy. (Loi Kroh to Chang Klan to Sridonchai, then left turn to The Chedi, then South along Charoen Prathet, back to Chang Klan at the end, under Aom Muang road and then South along the river. Quite a lot of traffic, perhaps only marginally less than usual at that time.

Best to cancel the curfew because nobody seems to care much. Kind of charming in a way, to see a curfew being handled in pretty much the same way as everything else is handled in this country.

you're having  wild boar curry at midnight?  I wish I could enjoy heavy meal this late.

I wish we could resist the urge to drift off topic.

Today's Bangkok press is stating that the curfew today is from 23.00 hrs to 05.00 hrs. I would presume that applies to Chiangmai too? Not that a curfew seems to be having any impact on "enjoyment" :)

Well it does have an effect on enjoyment..

Haven't you noticed how many restaurants and bars are closed..

Maybe a few of them are open, but I don't want to be seen there..

So an other night of suffering for a lot of local bussineses.

The guy in the white shirt and black trousers has definitely been arrested: http://www.thairath.co.th/content/region/84444 don't know if they've got the guy in the green shirt yet.

Actually that appears to be the guy in the green shirt as it is referring to invading the Governors house in CM.

Im sure he will be escorted out of Thailand pronto with a DCB stamp

Broke the curfew last night driving down night bazaar at 11.30pm.. lots of traffic really, a few foot patrols in the shadows, nearly drove into one patrol on the side of the road as they were so camouflaged! 711s open, - but didnt have any cheese sarnies dam_n them. Only a few days left thank goodness, my wife is a redshirt and I took great pleasure in telling her it was her fault that she has lost trade these last 3 days. :)

the look on her face would have been priceless :D

^ brave?

For many its an inconvenience, for a substantial %age of CM Thai's its massive loss of earnings, i guess the sunday walking street is the test tonight. The only bright side is that the shopping Thai's seem to be cramming their trips into the hours before curfew. The market where I have shops opens till 11pm, - last night most of the shopkeepers were wanting to break the curfew... but the market bosses insisted over the tannoy that it was time to shut. If this continues on monday, i suspect the curfew will be ignored by most people.

No I havn't because I have been abiding by the curfew. All the others that have gone out on the town seem to have had the usual fun. Did to wake up grumpy today? :)

From CRES this morning....

Bangkok and some provinces will be under curfew today from 11pm to 5am and the Centre for the Resolution for the Emergency Situation (CRES) has no immediate plan to repeal the emergency decree.

The curfew would remain in place today and the decision on whether to extend it would be made on a day-to-day basis, said Mr Suthep, who is the centre director.

Yesterday a curfew was declared between 9pm to 5am. The curfew was lifted in Pattaya. The centre had no plans to lift the emergency decree for the time being.

Isn't that bizarre? A couple of go-go bar owners whine, curfew lifted on day two. :D

Are a lot of people on this thread trying to impress other people about how "brave" they are?

MSPain

Brave? Hmmmmm.... I think that it takes more courage to drive in normal CM/LOS traffic on any given day then it does to venture out a little past a unenforced curfew.
