Thermae

Last time I paid homage to the Therme it was lights on at 2 am and hit the Street 10 minutes after.Fortunately I can usually jump on the green bus No 2 and be home 20 minutes later for a last beer in the wee Thai bars off Theparak.

According to B.T in the Post only the Grace is still open after the " hour "with a 100Bt entrance fee (against a beer)

Last time I was there it was full of very  large, fat and smelly "a salam a Lekums" and the women were even worse.

AS far as I can remember, the Thermae was demolished in 1996 or there abouts. It was documented in one of Christopher Moores novels, can't remember the title now.

The lead character and his buddy used the seat covers to make covers for moble phones, imagine the history below that.

The old Therme was indeed demolished a couple of years ago but it was a bit of a dump.To get into the place it was neccessary to go round the back of the building and climb through the smelliest.rancid, honkin "hong nam" this side of the middle east.Once inside the clientel were composed of the weirdest characters that could have been created and would  do justice to a "Frank-in-steine" birthday party. The old juke box would play modern hits like the "green green grass of home" "Linestone Cowboy" and of course "ho-hel_l Hali for-naa"

New one opened just up the road but shuts at 2 am.. :o

Thermae is (or at least used to be, pre-Taksin) an  institution, whether talking about old or new Thermae. I remember being shown the place on the vert first night of my first visit to Thailand (July -88) and I've never been the same since (returned to live here the year after). It's not that long ago, when I was told at 7.00 am that they closing the place and asked to leave (very politely). Since the 2.00 am curfew, I've only been there a couple of times. Let's hope the glory days will return sometimes in the future. I suppose though that the party goes on outdoors after 2.00 am or does it?

Therme-An Instituation-The story and the legend.

The first time I entered the joint was sometime in 1984 and would agree that it is or certainly has become a Bangkok/ indeed world instituation in its own right.

(I dont not say world Class ..thats surely up to the individual)

The fact that it does draw a lot of interest so I have posted the "Therme " page below for academic interest and research.I have had a look at it and find everthing scheduled fairly responsible and respectful and I dont think will cause any offence.

All part of the great circle that is LOS.

The New Social Order after 02.00 requires night life punters to buy their Beer Chang in bulk at the 7Eleven around the corner and enjoy the fresh Suhumvit Non Air Cond.

Social disaster!

What disaster are you referring to?

And mainly the Korean mongrels. No chance for a farang to pick up as much as before.

Are they stopping farang from going in now? Or is it just a case of odd man out?

some of the other bars for asians like in patpong I think would not want farang going in. Like on that japan street. Just walking down the street there the girls out front would say nothing and not make eye contact.

No you can freely go in, but most of the females in there are hunting for the asians, chinese, japanese or koreans who very foolishly shell out double if not triple amount of "gift" contribution.

Not to mention the agressive, fat smelly oversized "hiya mates" elsewhere,  who only  have a beer bottle and TV screen with football as sole references.

Jump forward 20 years? So few posts on this topic in that time. First went to Thermae in July 2020 and it was very quiet. Went again in March 2023 and it was fun. Did a couple of circuits just window shopping and chatting. Plenty of opportunities for us whiteys if interested. A broad mix of broads and something for everyone. Sally forth and dive right in for some adventure!

The eternal joke was that it was like the bar in Star Wars -it had all ages, types, and shapes.

Many bragged about seeing amputee and midget hookers, but I have my doubts. Jerry Hopkins of Doors bio-fame is credited with the first reference.

I recall a male bathroom attendant who would massage you when you were trying to do your urinal biz. It was def a tip them to go away scenario.
