Ok guys the saga continues.

Set my modem up as you both instructed, but could not connect.

They checked the line and say its open, when I try to connect I get an error message saying the other computer does not respond.

They say its my set up, had the modem checked, its fine

so;

In my Network Connections I have 4 lines :

BroadBand

Dial-up

Lan or highspeed internet

Wizard

In 'Broad band' appears the Maxnet short -cut

In 'Dial-up is Airplus MCD510 INTERNET CDMA

In 'Lan or highspeed internet' appears 2 items:

1394 connection firewall 1394 net adapter

and

Local area connection, connection firewall

via Rhine 2 fast ethernet ada

After which is the Wizard with 'new connection wizard' and 'network set-up wizard'

The local area connection shows itself as being connected

whatever I do I cannot get the maxnet in the lan area only the broad band.

I am connected to the modem via a a lan connector, I think, (Like a telephone jack but a little larger).

Despite everything I am not connected, at least I cannot get on the web

Help!!! please

Basically you do not have to dial-up, you do not have to connect to anything!!!

All the settings are in your modem, nothing resides on your computer.

Any computer plugged into one of the lanports of your modem will have access to the internet without having to do anyhing...

Hi Monty,

When I put that, (192.168.2.1 ), it takes me through the system you explained before. when reaching finish it just returns to the start screen again, (having saved the details I put in, or so it says)

All lights on the modem function except the online one

I expected to be connected just as you said, but!

I called their engineers out, they put a different modem on same thing the modem says all is ok,but no connection.

I used to have this computer connected to BT brodband in UK. no problems.

I did not know abou the two items under the lan heading and was therefore a little dubious about deleteing them or whatever.

If all the lights are on except the online one, this would mean that everything is ok except the PPPoE connection! (e.g. your password is getting refused)

I just downloaded the manual of your router!

When you follow the setup wizard, and you reach 3.Parameter Settings you chould choose"Thailand" as country, and "other" as ISP and PPoE as protocol.

After clicking "next" you can fill out the VPI/VCI settings (0/33),

the encapsulation (LLC),

your username (adlXXXXX@maxnet)

your password (combination of 5 letters/numbers, caps sensitive so an A should be A and not a)

your password one more time

And that should be all...

Monty,

First thanks for your time and effort.

What you say is is 100% correct.

All the points you make are exactly as I have done following your previous help.

However I am not connected and when I try to get a manual connection its says just what you outlined in your first para, (above). the other computer will not accept my password.

Had the engineers out who did not know much, (using your and Jsixpacks comments I knew more).

They maintain the problem is mine, their telephone person says she cannot get my username accepted either.

I am trying all bases.

Once again thanks for your time monty

Off to TT&T at Carrefour I guess :o

I certainly was more lucky then you, everything working first time (well, almost, they only accepted my username a couple of hours after the adsl came on line!)

Hi Guys,

OK, I went through everything you said again Monty, no luck.

I then started to disable things, the first being the

1394 connection

Connected firewall

1394 net adapter

Under the lan heading

and the fat lady started to sing.

I still do not know what exactly has gone on, but I am up and running.

I could not find the two tests you use monty but had an initial go with Streamguys which gave me a Download of 163.392 and an Upload of110.240

I live just off north road, we ever meet and a belly full of beer is on me, cheers.

Sorry I came in late, but you were in good hands w/ monty. Funny the random factors that often go into getting things to work. Glad you're up and running. Broadband sure beats dialup eh.

So if you're ready for beer and rock 'n' roll now, check out this thread for some suitable go-gos:
