Changing Tyres On Toyota Altis

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I have a 4 yo Toyota Altis that came with Bridgestone tyres (195/55 R16 87V). After 67,000km and with the rainy season coming, it's time to change. I went to a shop and the guy tried to sell me Dunlop tyres. I said I would use only Michelin or Bridgestone, which didn't seem to please him. He said he could order, but whatever the brand, he could only get 205/50 tyres.

So I have a few questions. Can I safely replace 195/55 by 205/50? Can you confirm that Michelin and Bridgestone are better than Dunlop? And finally does anyone know a reliable shop somewhere between Phetchaburi and Pranburi?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Should be fine, the car will be about 10mm lower and your speed with indicate 1.5% too fast. The tire is slightly wider but shouldn't be a problem as long as it doesn't rub, which I doubt it will.

That said I would look around first for the 195/55 tire.

Thanks a lot for your replies. I followed your advice and found a Bridgestone dealer in Ratchaburi (ACT shop at Tesco Lotus) that had the same tyres I was using. A bit far from my place but worth the trip, and I really felt the difference when I drove back.

Thanks again!
