PHUKET: -- The seventh annual Prison Products Fair will take place at Saphan Hin starting at 9am on Friday.

The 10-day event, from June 4 to 13, will offer a wide range of hand-made products crafted by prison inmates from 14 provincial prisons across the southern region as part of their vocational skills training.

The fair will officially kick off at 6pm Friday with an opening ceremony presided over by Corrections Department Director-General Chartchai Sutthikrom.

Prisoners will get to keep 50% of profits from sales, which they can use to rebuild their lives after their release.

In past years the majority of the products have been heavy-duty wooden furniture and decorative items, all at very reasonable prices.

Prices of unsold items tend to drop as the fair goes on and the last day often sees some excellent bargains.

A wide variety of staged entertainment, food stalls and refreshments will also be available.

For more information contact Phuket Provincial Prison on 076-214689.

Where can we buy items that were confiscated by Customs? I recall seeing a tourist in Bangkok carrying a shopping bag from such a shop.
