Atm Fees For Thailand-issued Bank Cards

Featured Replies

What are the ATM fees for Thailand-issued bank cards if your account is in another province (say Chiang Mai) and you want to withdraw money in Bangkok. Does it make a difference whether one uses his own bank's ATM or the one of another bank?? :)

Dont quote me but I think if you use your own bank it's the same as being back upcountry. Failing that it should be no more than 20-35 baht I imagine.

Tip: Don't take out 100 baht at a time. :)

You don't say which bank you bank with. With Bangkok Bank if I withdraw outside of my banking area it cost 20 baht per 10,000 withdrawn.

Well, does it matter which bank's ATM? My situation is this. I have an ATM card from outside Bangkok. Yesterday I tried to get money from Krungsri Bank's ATMs in the upper Sukhumvit area. There are two in my area which I tried yesterday: first one was out of order and the second one I tried was limited to only 2,000 baht(!) at a fee of 20 baht. My question now is, if I used my card at Bangkok Bank's or Kasikorn Bank's ATMs, would I still pay 20 baht per withdrawal or more?? :)

(Perhaps someone knows Krungsri's ATMs in the Onnut area which I don't know? And yes, the one in Tesco's is the one limited to 2,000 baht per withdrawal.)

I think the issue you are having is to do with Pay day. Some banks limit interbank transactions around pay day - at least they used to?

That's the time to avoid then?

Let me get this straight, if I want to withdraw, say 20,000 baht, does that mean that I have to withdraw 10 times 2,000 baht at a total fee of 200 baht only because it's the end of the month and pay day time in Thailand? :)

Mate, I am only giving you possibilities. Why not call your bank and ask the question?

You don't get it do you. If you withdraw from your bank outside of your banking area you pay 20 baht per 10,000 baht withdrawn. If you use another bank it will be 35 baht per 10,000.

The 2k limit is because the machine is only allowed to dispense 20 bills and only has 100 baht bills available (it has not been filled after payday week).

That's exactly what I was about to write - had this many times before. It is a bummer having a wallet full of 100's as you think you are far better off than you actually are :) .

The fee will be per transaction, not per amount, so using your own bank in another town (let alone province) will be the same fee if you withdraw 100 THB or 20,000 THB.

For me with SCB that fee is 20 THB at a SCB machine, and varies from 20-40 THB at other bank's machines (also per transaction).
